NHAI Grants Highway Projects worth Rs 4,494 Crores in Telangana

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under an ambitious umbrella initiative called Bharatmala Pariyojna, has awarded four road projects entailing a budget of Rs 4,493.57 crores to industries in Telangana. The centre’s autonomous highway agency issued a Letter of Award (LOA) for constructing 188.15 km of national highways on EPC (engineering, procurement and construction).

The project is planned to be developed on the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) of Bharatmala, which will subsume all highway projects by increasing NH connectivity by 77 percent. Under Bharatmala, the National Highways Authority of India is planning to construct 44 economic corridors by increasing the NC corridor count from 5 to 50.

The Bharatmala project will connect 550 districts, more than the current 330 districts. And in order to shoulder the development of roads and highways in the Southern regions, the NHAI awarded four road projects worth Rs 4,494 crores, according to the NHAI. The projects will stretch along four lanes of 39.98 km on NH 161 from Kandi to Ramsanpalle on EPC model and it is estimated to cost around Rs 1,201.62 crores.

The first leg of the project will be executed by GKC Projects Ltd. The second leg of the project will be laid from Ramsanpalle village to Mangalore village (using the HAM) on four lanes of 46.6 km, and will cost around Rs 1,220.83 crores. The second leg of the project is allocated to KNR Constructions Pvt Ltd.

In addition to these legs, an Rs 1,082.65-crore project is assigned to Dilip Buildcon, which will be constructed across NH-161 from Mangalore village to the Telangana-Maharashtra border. The project will also be developed under Hybrid Annuity Model.

The Bharatmala initiative is the second largest construction undertaking in the country and is aimed to enhance highway connectivity of economic corridors, borders, and remote areas. The enterprise is expected to create 100 million jobs. The NHAI’s highway project grant in Telangana will not only improve road and highway infrastructure but also spearhead the economic development of the State by generating employment opportunities.

The NHAI is at the helm of Bharatmala and is undertaking the highway and road development initiatives throughout the country.
