Rotofoam Masterbatches serve as chemical foaming agents both in liquid and powdered forms. In roto-molded form, these Foam Masterbatches lower the density, increase relative stiffness and enhance thermal and acoustic insulation of the thermoplastic polymers to which they are added. These Rotofoam Masterbatches can be used for foaming standard polymers like PE, PP, HDPE, LDPE, PVC, and ABS as well as technical polymers like TPE, TPU, PET and PBT. Exothermic blowing agents and endothermic blowing agents are the basic two types of chemical forming agents that can be used in processes like injection molding, extrusion and physical foaming.

How Do Rotofoam Masterbatches Work?

Being foaming agents, Rotofoam Masterbatches release gas during chemical reactions. Under pressure, these Rotofoam Masterbatches get dispersed and dissolved in the polymer melts. Upon the exit of melt from equipment, the pressure drops down causing the gas to expand the melt. This creates a cellular structure in the polymer matrix.

Advantages Of Using Rotofoam Masterbatches

  • Rotofoam Masterbatches increase strength to weight ratio of plastics.
  • These Masterbatches have excellent activation and are compatible with a huge array of polymer systems.
  • Adding small amounts of Rotofoam Masterbatches enables the molded parts to counterbalance excessive shrinkage.
  • These chemical foaming agents are best for thermal and acoustic insulation of injection molded plastic articles.
  • Also, these agents increase the impact strength and rigidity of the plastic.
  • The use of Rotofoam Masterbatches eliminates sink and wrapping marks from plastic.

Choosing A Proper Rotofoam Masterbatch

  • The temperature range and foam quality are the major factors that should be considered while selecting a Rotofoam Masterbatch.
  • For the final application, a suitable carrier resin must be chosen.

Requirements While Using A Rotofoam Masterbatch

  • The decomposition reaction must be carried out at a lower temperature as compared to the host polymer’s normal processing temperature.
  • To make sure that no blistering and delamination takes place during the molding process, the Masterbatch carrier should have compatibility with the host polymer.
  • Uniform dispersion and easy mixing of the Rotofoam Masterbatch must be done in the polymer.
