Food Truck is a very fast growing and an upcoming trend in the Food Business in India. Though the concept of a food truck came a bit late in India it has a huge potential market to which it can use to grow. In the countries like United States, England, China, Australia food trucks are very famous and are found on a large scale as compared to the other countries in the world. With a food truck, a large number of people will easily notice the foodstuffs available and once people start liking it, Food business will increase in leaps and bounds.

Food Truck vehicle: A food truck is quite different from a normal vehicle or a van. One thing which is very important is that a food truck should be very spacious and it should be kept clean and very hygienic. There are various food truck manufacturers in almost every city. We can take a school bus or a traveler bus and then install a mobile kitchen in it.

Food Kitchen: A very good mobile kitchen with all the equipment and necessary things is most important for a food truck Business Plan. There are various readily available food trucks with installed mobile kitchen in it are available in the market. Purchasing a ready-made food truck is a bit cheaper rather than doing it by ourselves.

Various Licenses and Permits:

According to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2011 it is mandatory for all food business communities or in any ways are responsible in handling of food must be registered with FSSAI ( Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), a regulatory authority of food businesses.

So to avoid any issues after starting the business, it is better to have all the licenses and permissions. The laws regarding to the food trucks are not very strict, but due to growing number of the food trucks, officials have started taking a note of food trucks now.

  • Food Business Operating license from FSSAI: Initially only FSSAI Registration is enough, but if the turnover crosses 12 lakhs, State license is necessary. All the food trucks must have FSSAI Registration done before starting a business as FSSAI certificate is a guarantee to the customers regarding food quality and free from any contamination.
  • Eating housing license from the Commissioner of Police of the city
  • A No Objection Certificate from Municipal Corporation and RTO seeking permission to park vehicle on the road.
  • License from the Fire department to ensure all safety measures installed in the vehicle in case of fire
  • Vehicle should have all the RTO compliant documents.
How to start a food Truck?

Business model: A study of market is very necessary before starting any Food business. The target audience and likes dislikes of the people, their age-groups, location of the truck, The food item which is to be sold, whether veg or non-veg etc are few areas which have to be explored before starting a business. You must have different varieties of food products in the food truck to attract a large audience.

Pricing of the products: Food products have a distinct advantage of keeping prices much lower. However the prices should not be very low so that it affects food quality in any way. So it must be kept in a balance. Initially, a Food Businesses might give a few discount offers etc.

Marketing: Nowadays marketing has become very essential thing along with doing business. Using social media platforms, distributing pamphlets, advertising etc can be used to inform people about your truck. Once the people will start knowing the truck, business will grow very quickly.

Brand-value: The focus should be on establishing your own brand name. Cleanliness and proper hygiene is very important. Food should be served in a proper plates, spoons etc and waste disposal management should be properly checked.
