In pursuance of harvesting the roots of this miracle herb, the farmers need to cultivate for around four years in the Wisconsin ginseng farms. Working laboriously to protect these precious herbs, the farmers work day and night, defending them from the scorching summer heat and the harsh chilly winters. To make the plant grow in a forest like a state, a layer of straw and other shade structures are placed over the ginseng plant which also protects it during the summer months.

Since it takes a long span of four years to harvest, the farmers need to supervise carefully and work diligently so that the whole range of issues that can ruin the plant stays at bay. Factors like abnormal weather conditions where it gets too wet or dry, or wild animals marching into the Wisconsin ginseng farm and destroying the plants. Now let’s ponder upon the after-harvesting procedure of this precious herb.

Refrigerating for ten to twenty days, the ginseng roots are placed in the cooler after they are harvested. A special ginseng dryer is used where the cleaned roots are kept, dried for 14 days and are monitored continuously. Sorting of the ginseng roots starts after they are fully dried and are then categorized into small, medium, large, and extra-large roots.
