How to Maintain your Electric Bicycle?
Posted: Apr 30, 2018
1. Pedal a bit before you twist the throttle
Do not twist the throttle right away when you use the electric bicycle. When you start riding, pedal for some length and get the e cycle in motion. Once the electric bicycle is set and running smoothly, only then operate the throttle.
2. Pedal a bit before engaging Pedal Boost
The Pedal Boost has been designed to modulate the effort that your legs have to put in while riding. However, engaging the Pedal Boost after pedalling mechanically for a few seconds ensures better usage of the battery.
3. Wipe often with a damp cloth (Take care of the pins on the battery cradle)
Keep the electric bicycle clean. Do not use excessive water. Wipe the cycle with a dry cloth, removing dirt. Then, clean with a damp cloth. When you use a damp cloth, be careful that to not make contact with the pins on battery cradle.
4. Do not wash with a pipe or bucket
Using a bucket or a pipe to wash your e cycle is overkill. The e cycle is IP65 rated water-resistant, but it is best not to burden it with excess water.
5. Park in the shade when parking it for long hours
If you are going to park the electric cycle for a long time, we recommend that you use a place with sufficient shade. Intense direct sunlight can damage equipment and the frame if exposed for a long time.
Also, it will be much easier for you to take the seat when you return.
6. Charge up to 80% and set aside if you are not going to be riding the bicycle for more than a month
There may be times when you will not be using your e cycle at all for extended durations. In such instances, charge the battery till 80% of full capacity and set aside.
7. Be gentle while removing and reattaching the battery
You may want to remove and reinsert the battery regularly every time you want to recharge the battery. The cradle for the battery can experience wear and tear if you use jerky, risqué movements.
Be gentle when you remove and insert the battery in the cradle.
8. Ensure your cycle tires are well inflated
Your cycle tyres will face a lot of brunt from the road surface. It is easier for the tyres to function if they are well inflated. Uninflated tyres will cause a drag and put a lot of strain on your legs while also causing the battery to deplete faster.
9. Don’t bang your electric bicycle into walls or drop it to the ground; make it stand upright using the side stand
E-cycles are meant to take the bumps on the road when they come, not unnecessary bangs and drops. Try not to put the frames through heavy impact, don’t let it drop to the ground when standing against a wall, and don’t bang it against anything. Use the side stand.
10. Check the brakes from time to time.
If you feel even a slightly loose or an ineffective brake, take your electric bicycle to a nearby cycle store and get it checked. Do not wait even the slightest once you realize that the brakes have decreased in their strength and feel a bit off.
