Tips on Choosing the Carpet

Carpet is the most common home accessory. It can help to protect our floor, protect you from slippery. Apart from that, it also can play big function in decorating your home. Nowadays, the carpets come in different colors, patterns and the textures. So it may be a little hard to choosing the proper rug for your home décor. Read on to learn some useful tips.

Look for carpets with thick, dense pile. Typically, more expensive carpets have denser pile, but this is not always the case. Inspect each carpet for density and thickness.

Whether it is wool or a synthetic, the more tightly twisted the fiber, the more abrasion it will withstand. Fiber length is also important. With long individual fibers, there will be less shedding, and the carpet fibers will stay where you want them: in your carpet! Test by digging your fingertips into the pile and dragging them across the surface. If you can scrape up more than just a few carpet fibers, the staples are too short; your carpet may continue to lose density. If very few fibers come loose, that’s good: your carpet will retain its body. Also notice how it feels: poor quality yarn will be coarse, dry and fuzzy; a good quality yarn will feel soft.

For an environmentally-friendly option, consider jute, coir, sisal or seagrass carpet. Of all these dense natural materials, sisal is the toughest, with a lifespan of around 30 years, but also the priciest, at around £25 per square metre. As the texture of these carpets is quite coarse, they can be uncomfortable to sit on, but they're good for halls, stairs or home offices. Crucial Trading specialises in carpets and rugs made from natural materials and are a good first port of call.

If you plan to install carpeting in a high-traffic room, save yourself headaches by choosing an easy-to-clean product. Since it stands up to soil and stains, nylon is a popular choice, though in bathrooms and other similarly moist areas of the home, mildew-resistant Olefin may be the superior choice.

One of the main points of carpeting is to provide a soft, comfortable surface for you to walk on or sit on. Just because your carpet is durable enough for the outdoors does not mean it should be much stiffer than carpets made specifically for inside the home. The selection tends to be wide enough that you should be able to find a fairly soft carpet that also is durable. Consider touching the fibers of the carpet before you buy it, or at least read reviews from other customers to ensure that the one you want is comfortable.
