Send the Best of the Rakhis to Your Dearest Brother irrespective of The Location
Posted: May 11, 2018
Raksha Bandhan is a famous festival of India. It was earlier celebrated only by the Hindu Community. But today it is celebrated by almost all the Indians. This festival is also known as the festival of ‘Rakhi’. It falls on full moon day or Poornima in the month of Shravana of the Hindu calendar.
Raksha Bandhan, the name speaks for itself. As we all know, Raksha means protection and Bandhan means bond. Hence the name itself says ‘bond of protection’. On the day of Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie a thread on the wrist of their brothers as a protection talisman, for which in return brother promises to protect his sister for lifelong. This thread is known as Rakhi.
Traditional Rakhi celebration
Raksha Bandhan is not merely a festival for brothers and sisters. It has profound meaning and existence in the life of Indians. The festival is all about protection, this protection is from the bad influence for the good.
Raksha Bandhan is celebrated by with lots of traditions and customs, where sisters prepare a Rakhi ki Thali for brothers. This includes a small Diya, kumkum, sweets and a Rakhi. Then a Pooja is offered to the God by the family members. Then comes the main ritual, where sisters do Aarti of their brothers and tie Rakhi on their wrist, whereas brothers give sisters Shagun in the form of a present and take a vow to protect their sisters lifelong. And this is how a traditional Raksha Bandhan is celebrated.
Modern-day Rakhi celebration
But this was all about the good old days when the brothers and the sisters were present at one place to celebrate this beautiful festival. Due to the modernization and evolution, Indians are today around the globe. Well-known is the fact that wherever Indians go they always make it a point to keep their culture alive. Indian or particularly the brothers wherever they are, come to their home country to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan. But with this busy schedule today, it gets a bit challenging for them to carry on with this tradition. They then end up celebrating this pious festival alone away from their nation without a Rakhi. Oouch! That hurts.
