You can certainly visit your podiatrist if you are experiencing nail fungus, but if you are interested in treating your nail fungus with holistic remedies, there are also holistic podiatrists who focus on treatments that include only homeopathic remedies. Typically, you can run to the store and purchase on over-the-counter remedy that will cure fungus, however if you prefer not to put chemicals and other ingredients that could be potentially harmful to your skin and body on yourself, then you will be happy to know that there are plenty of treatments for fungus that are healthy and completely, 100% natural.

What is Nail Fungus?

Fungus is essentially a nail infection that is more common on toenails, but can also occur on fingernails. Toenail fungus is caused by dermatophyte, which are fungus that feed on the keratin of the toe nail. Normally, the biggest and littlest toes on your feet are the two toes which are commonly affected by infections of the soft tissue that surround the nails. Someone who has fungus will exhibit crispy looking toenails that are discolored in either a yellowish or brownish color. The nails become brittle and can also give off a foul odor, making this infection embarrassing as well as anywhere from uncomfortable to painful.

To Cure Fungus Naturally

This information should not replace a doctor’s recommendations for treatment of your nail fungus. You will still want to seek the medical advice of a podiatrist while you are going through the steps of treating your nail fungus with natural cures. Here are some 100% natural ways to cure nail fungus:

Tea Tree Oil & Lavender Oil – Mix equal parts of tea tree oil with lavender oil and, using a cotton swab or cotton ball, dab the solution to cover all of the nail infection. This should be done two to three times per day. Tea tree oil is a 100% natural antibiotic and lavender oil works to prevent irritation of the skin and also fights infection. This concoction can even treat severe cases of nail infections, but be prepared to apply this solution until the nail infection is completely eradicated, which could take several months.

Olive Oil & Oregano – One teaspoon of olive oil and two drops of oregano oil should be mixed together then applied to the nail fungus for up to three weeks. Do not apply this to the nails any more than three weeks. Olive oil essentially creates a base oil for the oregano, which is a potent herb that has anti-parisitical, antibacterial, antiseptic, analgesic, anti-fungal and antiviral properties.

Garlic – Apply the garlic directly to the areas that are affected with the fungus. It has microbial properties to help fight the nail infection. You can also eat the garlic in addition to rubbing it on the nail and surrounding skin.

Remember that even if you are using any of these herbal remedies to help to heal your nail fungus, you may still want to seek the advice of a podiatrist so that they can monitor whether the fungus is healing or not and advice you on other potential cures.
