Food Safety Certification – Assuring Safe and Nutritious Food to People

Ensuring safe and nutritious food for around 130 crore Indian on Pan-India basis require massive efforts. FSSAI, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India firmly believes that this can only be achieved in partnership with multiple stakeholders. One of the highest standard of food management safety is the ISO 22000 mark, which is also internationally recognised standard for the food businesses. People involved in the food businesses need to obtain food safety certification, as it is regarded as the highest mark of safety. This safety standard ensure implementation of a certified food safety management system that include system management, interactive communication and hazard control. Businesses involved in the food industry need to ensure that they can efficiently handle obstacles that can cause the food to spoil and practice absolutely fair manufacturing process ensuring that food produced by them is completely safe for consuming.
Food safety certification is the means of assurance that the certified organisation has successfully implemented the food safety management system and comply with all process, activities, products and services in tune with the organisation's food safety policy and ISO 22000 requirements. Besides ISO 22000 certification another food safety certifications that are common among food businesses is Food Safety System Certification 22000 and HACCP. Food safety System Certification 22000 focuses on assuring food safety by controlling, stating and evaluating risks during manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution or offering for sale in the food chain. HACCP certification ensures that the quality and the control on the food hazards are taken care of. If businesses are certified as per any of the food safety standards then it is ensured that the quality and the control on the food hazards are well taken care of and the food produced by the certified organisation is safe to be consumed.
Food industry needs to be conscious about the quality of their manufactured foods and need to ensure that the quality is maintained at every single stage of the food preparation. Food safety certification is required by all types of food-chain organisation regardless of the size. The food-chain business looking for safety certification needs to meet few requirements and needs to demonstrate the control on the hazards and also need to ensure that the food is fit for human consumption.
