The government sector is a key player in the development of roads and highways in India, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is giving a steady momentum to the growth. The Indian road network density is far more than even the largest nations on Earth. Henceforth, the development of the nodal system in the country will make a huge difference in the lives of the citizens. To this end, the NHAI’s Sukhad Yatra mobile application exemplifies the emerging role of it in the nation’s advancement.

The application is designed and developed by ComVision (India) Pvt. Ltd. The built-in features of the application will ease the commuters’ journey by allowing them to find out the wayside amenities on and near national highways. These facilities fall under the National Highways Authority of India’s Wayside Amenities (WSAs) structures such Highway Nest, Highway Village and Highway Mini.

The Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari, launched the Sukhad Yatra application during the first quarter of 2018. The mobile app will serve as a great tool of information and navigation for the highway users. The application has standalone functions such as Nearby Toll Plaza(s), Toll Plaza Enroute, Buy FASTag, Know Your Highway and more.

Sukhad Yatra’s Nearby Toll Plaza(s) allows users to find the nearest Toll gates. Now, commuters can easily find out their way and re-route to the right way if they are navigating in the wrong direction. It also lets the user know the government-mandated tariffs on parsing through the Toll plazas.

Motorists can use the Toll Plaza Enroute tool to locate all the Toll booths on their way to the destination. Further, they can even check the applicable tariffs which will cut down the fraudulent practices of Toll grenades. The Buy FASTag in Sukhad Yatar allows commuters to purchase FASTag stickers, and make automated electronic Toll payments.

Using Sukhad Yatra, commuters can even know the name of the highway they are on. The Know Your Highway feature allows users to choose the highway they want to travel between two locations. They only need to give the destination and the application will suggest the shortest route that leads to the landing point.

The Nearby component uses Google Maps and locates nearby amenities such as restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs, hospitals and other services in the vicinity of the users on national highways. The software suite comes as a guide for the highway users. It acts as a vigilance tool for commuters’ safety.

Sukhad Yatra is improving the highway commuter’s journey and also contributing to the development of highway sector. It also strengthens the connectivity between citizens and the government by facilitating highway users to file their complaints, grievances and feedbacks within the application.

Within the period of its launch, Sukhad Yatra got overwhelming responses. The application received more than 40,000 user downloads at the rate of over 250 users each hour. And it is growing at a rapid pace.

Driving the government’s Digital India initiative, Sukhad Yatra contributes to the modernisation of highways as well. The application is available for download. With its various tools and standalone features, Sukhad Yatra is enhancing commuter’s experience on highways.
