Jennifer Curtis may be the daughter of the famed Thomas Curtis, but she has made a name for herself through her high-quality and intricately designed jewelry pieces that feature stamped silver pieces and eye-catching precious stones. Jennifer’s work was no doubt influenced by her father but is highly distinct and independent.

Growing up on the Arizona Navajo reservation, has been Jennifer helping her father ins hos workshop since she was a child. She was able to learn silversmithing and develop her own style of making stamped silver jewelry from her Thomas’ one-of-a-kind style. Her traditional upbringing in Keams Canyon helped nurture her talent for making one-of-a-kind traditional and innovative pieces that reflect the traditional Navajo culture.

Certain features make every stamped silver jewelry by Jennifer Curtis different from pieces made in similar ways by other Native American artists and jewelers. Her preference for heavy gauge sterling silver is one of the factors that make her creations unique and highly valued by discerning collectors of Native American jewelry. Jennifer uses her father’s handcrafted stamps to make unique pieces, showing her creativity and innovation.

Jennifer Curtis’ stamped silver crafts are considered works of art, which earned her a lot of first place prizes and recognition at well-known events like the Santa Fe Indian Market. One of her best creations is a bracelet that has a large 86 carat gem-grade natural Darling Darlene spiderweb turquoise as its centerpiece. Jennifer emphasized the beauty of the cabochon with individually hand-cut teeth curling over the stone’s edges as it is set atop a polished double sterling silver plate. The shank dazzles with individually hand-punched reposse patterns. Deep arrowheads draw the beholder’s gaze to the cabochon, as flowing leaves are depicted on either side. Fan designs are deeply hand-stamped on the terminals, with arrows and crescent shapes.

Apart from making pieces of jewelry, such as rings and bracelets, she makes buckles, earrings, wine goblets, and silver vessels, too. Her father may be her initial source for inspiration, but she is also inspired by Hopi jewelry, Sonwai, and Navajo jeweler, Raymond Yazzie. Her uncle, Billy Betoney is a creative influence on her craft, too. According to her, she feels a bond with the materials she works with, like silver, turquoise, and other stones, and that strengthens her love for her work, as they come from Mother Earth.
