The Space Pen name would make Galileo's heart skip a beat. To use in space NASA scientists spent millions of taxpayer dollars in designing a writing instrument.

Yet, contrary to popular belief NASA has nothing to do with the invention of zero gravity promotional pens. So we should know that what make these Tombow pens so unique.

You must have been living in a space or under a rock if you've not heard of Fisher Space Pens...and you may be unable to write because you didn't know about the fisher space pen.

Famously known as ball point pen, these pens won’t let you down as it can write pretty much anywhere whether its upside down, or the slightly more extreme underwater scenario.

Fisher had the nifty idea of creating a universal refill and it was back in the 1953 where it all began. As at the time there were loads of different ballpoint pen models, which rather annoyingly almost every one took a different ink cartridge!

Fisher Space had created a top seller! It was much easier for the public and it made perfect sense as practically that the stock of Itoya pen refills should be reduced by the shop owners.

On the next generation of ink refill the clever fellows at Fisher Space Pens started working on. They came up with the refill using a cartridge pressurised with nitrogen throwing the need for gravity out the window. Back then thixotropic Ink was used -Until the shearing action of the rolling ball liquefied it and made it flow it stays semisolid.

As it was the dawn of the Space Race this new invention from Fisher Space came in very handy. As ballpoint pen didn't work up in space, astronauts involved in the Mercury and Gemini missions had been using pencils. But it was the time that the FISHER SPACE PEN could shine.

They work.

  • It should be written in Zero Gravity, and it is good that it is prepared but obviously it is not something that you're likely to need it for.
  • at -30 Degrees to 140 Degrees it will write - It's true that at extremities of these temperatures, most of us won't actually need to use our Space but your Fisher Space Pen will do the job if you happen to be sunning yourself on a beach somewhere or it’s a cold winters day.
  • Write under water - For all the divers or sea dogs out there, water will not affect this little beauty!
  • It should be written when you are lying down on your back making notes or you can write upside down
  • Write on most surfaces - when you’re on a DIY mission it is Great for measuring up, or to hand you don't have a piece of paper and anything will do. Your over enthusiastic toddler shouldn’t get hold of it.
  • With thixotropic ink they feature an Ultra-hard tungsten carbide ball
  • Its features are great and are durable too as well as they write 3 times longer than any ordinary ballpoint pen.
