Boyd Coddington - A Legend in American Hot Rod

Boyd Leon Coddington is a famous name in the USA and a great hot rod designer. He was the owner of Hot Rod Shop and a star on TLC (An American TV Channel) for his great creation.

Education and Career of Boyd Coddington

Boyd Coddington was born 28 August 1944 at Rupert, Idaho, United States. He loved reading hot rod magazines and sooner at the age of 13 he got his first car (A Chevrolet Truck). He attended a technical trade school in Salt Lake City and completed a 3 year apprenticeship in machining.

He moved to California in the 1968 and worked as a machinist at Disneyland while attempting to improve cars in his garage at night. Sooner in 1977 he got the success and became famous for building unique hot rods. After that he opened his own car garage named "Hot Rods by Boyd" in Cypress, California.

The unique design by Boyd Coddington

Boyd Coddington became famous for his unique, elegant and clean design. His custom-fabricated alloy wheels were his signature made by solid aluminum billet.

For the purpose of manufacturing and marketing his own custom billet wheels Boyd Coddington founded "Boyd's Wheels Inc" in 1988.

Boyd Coddington – An Inspiration

Later on the next generation who wanted their career in this field started their own career with Boyd Coddington. Larry Erickson who became the chief designer at Mustang and Thunderbird for Ford Motor Co. Designer Chip Foose and fabricator Jesse James both started their careers with him. Later on Boyd Coddington hosted American Hot Rod at Discovery.

Awards

Boyd Coddington got the "America's Most Beautiful Roadster" (AMBR)" award 7 times and he was the only back to back winner of this award and earned an entry for the various hall of fame (SEMA, the Route 66, National Rod & Custom Museum, Hot Rod).

Boyd Coddington Death

Boyd Coddington was a long time diabetic and died on February 27, 2008. He was buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park in California.
