How to Choose Banarasi Sarees for Weddings

Posted: May 31, 2018
Banarasi sarees are the very definition of ethnic grandeur and form a part of every woman’s bridal trousseau as it is believed that these elegant weaves carry the blessings from the holy city of its origin. Fashion comes in cycles and trends come and go but traditional banarasi silk sarees never go out of style. Exquisite motifs with Persian influences in pure gold or silver zari adorn these coveted banarasi silk sarees with rich meena work all over. Also heavier the zari work, greater is the weight of the saree and hence the price. Although light weight banarasi varieties are available in the form of banarasi kora, banarasi georgette sarees and banarasi tussar silks which are ideal for summers, nothing beats the charm of a pure banarasi silk saree on your wedding day giving all vibes befitting royalty. So beat the heat this summer by replacing your ordinary printed or embroidered georgette sarees with rich and airy Banarasi Georgette Sarees, which is the ultimate blend of Mughal opulence on easy breezy georgette sarees for comfort and style. You can also check out our guides to choosing the right banarasi silk saree for your auspicious day:
- For your skin tone:
Always choose a saree that complements your skin tone. If you have a paler skin, go for peach, light pink, gold, bright yellow and mauve shades. For warmer skin tones try coral, orange hues, mustard yellow and vibrant reds as it will make your skin pop. Tone down your jewellery and wear a subtle colored banarasi blouse to make your ensemble leave a lingering impression. For duskier skin tones go for brick reds, emerald green, deeper brown shades like marsala and deep purples. If you are all for the trends, opt for grey, ivory, pastels and sorbet shades as popularized by designers like Sabyasachi and Anita Dongre.
- For your body type:
Wearing the right type of saree can accentuate your best features. Taller and slimmer women can go for broad borders, heavy weaving with large motifs all over in bold and stand out colors. If you are on the petite side and with a healthier body type, you must go for thin borders, small buttas and preferably monotone colors with vertical or diagonal weave patterns to make you look taller. Avoid horizontal patterns. On the other hand if you have a heavy bottom or your body type falls in one of these categories i.e. pear or apple, you should wear a petticoat with a tiny or cinched waist, that flares out to the hemline.
