Applications and advantages of polypropylene fibers
Posted: Jun 01, 2018
Polypropylene is a true protagonist in many of the products found in every home and in different industries. Polypropylene fibers have some characteristics that make them an ideal complement to obtain certain advantages in the works and specifically as an addition to concrete.
It has following features:
Transparency: It also has a superior transparency to the rest of the polyolefin’s, becoming one of the most used materials in containers and packaging.
Lightweight: Delrin Polypropylene has a lower specific weight, therefore it allows obtaining lighter parts in its applications.
Recycling: It does not contain chlorine or aromatic compounds that can affect its energy recovery.
H mold Polypropylene fiber is a composite material consisting of continuous or discontinuous polypropylene fibers assembled in a plastic matrix. Polypropylene is used as reinforcement material due to the following reasons:
- Mechanical properties: polypropylene manages to achieve good rigidity / impact balance.
- Chemical properties: it has excellent chemical resistance to common solvents and has High Impact Acrylic.
- Good dimensional stability at high temperatures.
- Barrier to steam of water: it avoids the transfer of humidity.
Polypropylene fibers are used in the following applications:
- Industrial pavements and Polypropylene Sheet
- Because it is high strength concrete so used in Tri bead
- Tunnels
- Exspanda Stand
- Special mortars
- Prefabricated concrete.
The advantages of the use of polypropylene fibers as reinforcement are:
- Reinforcement system alternative to meshes, cheaper, faster and easier to use.
- It diminishes the formation of cracks by retractions and contractions.
- They save time of construction since when mixing it with concrete its application is direct.
- Reduce labor costs by skipping procedures in the execution of works.
- They provide secondary and uniform reinforcement.
- They mix easily in concrete, either in plant or on site.
- It is not corrosive or magnetic.
- They contribute tenacity to the structure.
- Increase impact resistance and prevent erosion.
- They provide security to the works.
- They provide three-dimensional reinforcement.
- They have a high tensile strength.
The use of polypropylene fiber in concrete
The polypropylene fiber is a reinforcing additive that is added to the concrete, thus improving the quality of constructions since it permeates the water so does not damage the Plywood and suffers cracks due to humidity, since it reduces cracking and fractures the great constructions.
This polypropylene fiber is made of 100% virgin material and has a form of monofilaments that reduce cracks in the concrete, as it acts as a three-dimensional reinforcement in the concrete to dissipate the stresses within its mass, reducing shrinkage by contraction plastic in a fresh state, and cracking by temperature in hardened state and also reduces the segregation of materials and water filtration.
If the concrete element also requires protection against the formation of fungi, microbes and bacteria, as is the case in hospitals, food factories, laboratories, drinking water tanks, wastewater treatment plants, farms, dining rooms and kitchens, polypropylene fiber in the form of multifilament’s, designed to protect concrete against the attack of microorganisms, can be safely used.
The polypropylene fibers are made with an antimicrobial agent that forms an integral part of their composition, which alters the metabolic function of the microorganisms preventing their growth and reproduction.
