Eye cataract surgery in India is one of the most common surgeries and is also funded by government to support the economically backward classes. Cataract affects many people after the age of 65 and is easily treatable by placing an intraocular lens which helps in retrieving clear vision. Any kind of infection can lead to a major setback to the surgery and may also result in vision loss which cannot be retrieved.

Though eye cataract surgery is quite a painless and quick surgery. one must consult his/her cataract surgery doctor about the safety measures to be taken and the possible complications which might develop after the surgery. The complications may include retinal detachment, swelling of eyes, redness in eyes, inflammation of eyes, glaucoma, haemorrhage, no improvement in vision, retention of a piece of cataract and other infections. Though it is a minimal risk surgery but risks are always there.

However, a cataract surgery doctor always tells his/her patient to take proper care in order to avoid Retinal Detachment which can lead to loss of vision. It can occur due to several reasons or because of not taking care of the eye post surgery. In this condition, the retina of the eyes develops a hole or tears and gets detached from the wall of the eyes. Once separated from the wall of the eye, the retina loses part of its blood supply. Without a proper blood supply, the cells in the retina begin to diminish. It is the retina that is responsible for processing visual information and sending it to the brain. Thus, once the retina is damaged, it results in permanent loss of vision.

The chance of developing a retinal detachment after cataract surgery is approximately 1 in 3,000. If diagnosed early, a retinal tear can be treated with thermal laser photocoagulation. Retinal detachment usually requires surgical intervention.

Eye cataract surgery is very common in India and it also has a very high success rate as well. But, one must take proper care of his/her eyes in order to avoid any complications post the eye cataract surgery.
