Paving the way for the approval of Idea Cellular and Vodafone India merger, the department of telecommunications (DoT) has cleared the former's proposal to increase foreign direct investment (FDI) limit to 100 per cent in the merged entity. Idea currently has FDI limit of 67.5 per cent. Days after the ruling BJP suffered an electoral setback, primarily in the sugarcane-growing belt of western Uttar Pradesh, and with farmers in parts of the country stopping supplies of essential commodities to protect price fall, the Centre is expected to announce a fresh package of almost Rs 80 billion to bail out the sugar sector. India’s Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. is bunching Rs 477 billion ($7.1 billion) of its cash reserves in short and long-tenure securities to balance its need for easy liquidity with safety as it looks to make significant payouts to shareholders each year. Asia’s largest software services provider invested about 53 percent of its reserves in government securities as of March 31, with the rest spread over deposits, mutual funds and corporate paper, according to TCS’s annual report. BSE Sensex and NSE’s Nifty 50 fell for the second straight day as investor turned cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s policy statement today. BSE Sensex closed lower by 108.68 points to 34,903.21 while the Nifty 50 fell 35.35 points to close at 10,593.15. BSE MidCap and SmallCap lost 1.20% and 2.43%, respectively. All the sectoral indices on BSE, except energy and oil and gas, declined with telecom losing most at 3.08%, capital goods 1.96%, industrials 1.80% and healthcare 1.40%. Tata Steel, Reliance, Maruti Suzuki and HDFC Bank were top gainers, whereas Bharti Airtel, L&T, Dr. Reddy’s Labs and Coal India were among the major losers.

The Nifty on Wednesday may at the index value of 10561 to a maximum value of 10719 and minimum value at 10403. The sectors which would be bullish are IT sector, FMCG sector and metal sector.
