After a long, hard day at work the last thing you want to do is spend hours in the kitchen whipping up something for dinner. It can be hard to balance simplicity and nutrition, therefore making this particular time of day easier will be feel like an absolute miracle, so here are some sneaky tips for you to get on top of your dinner time routine.

Meal Prep

Meal prep isn't just for the insta models and fitness gurus of the world. You will be surprised the impact it can have on your everyday routine. Not only does it allow you to think ahead and plan healthier meals, it takes the stress out of the prep, planning and cooking of dinner during the week.

Taking a few hours each week to sit down, plan your meals, prep what you need to and cook what you can, this will be a great way to speed up your dinner making process. Just come home, reheat what you need to and dinner is served!

The only downside I have found to this is that you can get quite bored if you have only made bulk of one meal for the week, so try to only do two to three serves of the same meal at a time!

Embrace the Slow Cooker

Most people are pressed for time around dinner so the invention of the slow cooker was instrumental. The best part about a slower cooker is that you can chuck something in it in the morning and by the time you get home it's ready to go! It pretty much cooks itself!

There are a bunch of delicious slow cooker recipes online so make the most of it and try a whole bunch. I find that these are a great option in the cooler months of the year!

Did someone say cheese platter?

Who says dinner has to be cooked? There are a bunch of meals that you make that require very little prep at all! Think cheese platters, fancy sandwiches, salads, or a plate of tapas. These may not be the healthiest options, but they are perfect for a lazy cook!

Get your inspiration from this list of no-cook recipes!

One word: Stir-fry

If you’re not much of a cook the I am about to introduce you to your best friend… the stir fry. Just buy a pack of stir fry veggies, some straight-to-wok noodles and a jar of sauce. Chuck it all in a pan, stir it in a circle a few times and it's ready to go! This is the perfect after work meal that you can make in under 15 minutes!

Meal Delivery

Okay, this might not be the best option, however sometimes after a long, hard day the absolute last thing you want to do is cook and the easiest option here is to get something delivered. We’ve all been there; it's late, cold and you’re exhausted so treat yourself every now and again and order a pizza, or get your favourite Thai dish delivered to your door! There are so many options out there now, you can even opt for a healthier meal.
