There’s nothing more frustrating for a woman to spend a couple hours getting their nails pampered only to see her fresh manicure is starting to chip within in a matter of days or minutes if you are highly prone to accidents.

A manicure can make your nails look perfect instantly, but it requires much TLC to keep that manicurist-like stroke on for longer.

Here are a few tips on how you can extend the lift of your manicure and save yourself a lot of money and stress.

1. Use nail polish remover

One of the things women are quite concerned about is how to make their nail polish stay on longer. The natural oil secreted by our hands is one of the things that chip away the nail paint. In order cure this problem, the best thing you can do before applying the base coat is to use some nail polish remover before anything. Use it even if there is no polish to remove and get rid of any excess oils you may have on your nails.

2. Don’t wash your hands

It’s best to stay away from water entirely before your manicure session. When you soak your nails in the water, they retain that moisture and expand. This means that once the nails come back to their normal state, they will shrink making your nail polish unfit for your nails. You can prevent instant chipping by keeping your hands dry before manicures.

3. Put on thin layers of nail polish

If you frequently get your nails done at the solon, you may have notice how the artist seems to do the job as if it is a breeze. It is usually a double coat of polish and then finishing with a clear top coat. But when you try to do your nails yourself, you never seem to achieve that perfection. Well, most of us usually don’t. The best thing to do is to apply four very thin layers of coat. This will make your nail art last long and resolve any bubble issue.

4. Shape your nails properly

When you file your nails, do them properly by sweeping the nail file in the same direction. Do not use the buffing back and forth action as this will cause breakage and tearing.

5. Try a rubberised base coat

If you want that acrylic powder applied to your nails in the salon, consider using a rubberised basecoat. The polish will stay on better to the nails, thanks to the tacky but effective formula.

6. Shimmering colours last longer

It is a common knowledge that the hardest to remove nail polish is the one with sparkles in it. Opt for a shimmering colour, the nail paint will last long significantly. If you are worried about getting it off, because it can be very troublesome, there are tons of tutorials on the web that have easy and practical ways to get it off.
