Choosing to become an egg donor for a family or couple in need can prove to be a very beneficial and rewarding gesture. Not everyone is blessed with good health and the ability to have children without the need for reproductive assistance. Becoming an egg donor offers you as a woman, the opportunity to give the gift of children and life to a couple that is not able to conceive naturally. If you think that becoming an egg donor is something that you can try out, you need to understand that the process is well-defined and pretty much rewarding.

However, you have to search yourself and make sure that you are actually ready to donate your eggs to a third-party. By donating your eggs to a family in need, you will be taking the responsibility of giving the benefit of getting offspring to the other couple. You need to live healthy and also understand the full scope of the services that you will be offering. Here now is a look at the processes you will have to go through when you want to become an egg donor.

First of all, you need to visit an adoption service or fertility doctor and ensure that your intentions are known. The doctor will then discuss the necessary procedure and recommend immediate steps in-depth. You will have to undergo a number of medical tests and screens in order to make sure that you are eligible to make your donation. These tests include blood work, medical history analysis and a complete psychological evaluation. Any infectious disease can also disallow you from being an egg donor. If in any case you will be donating eggs anonymously, you will have to be matched with the recipient who is much similar to you.

Secondly, there comes the process of egg donation. Once you have signed the various contracts and legal agreements, the doctor will put you and the recipient on birth control pills for purposes of aligning your cycles. This takes between a month or one month and a half. You will also get injections which will help in halting the functioning of the ovaries. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is used in order to facilitate the production of the mature eggs in the ovaries. Tests are carried out on the donor quite often so as to make sure that everything is going as planned. You have to make sure that you are committed and eager to attend every appointment before you can embark on the process.

Last but not least, when the doctor is convinced that your eggs are ready, they will then notify you and the recipient a day in advance. From there, you can visit the doctor for the process to be completed. Once you have donated the eggs, the part you play as the donor is complete. The egg can be fertilized in vitro or even implanted directly depending on the recipient’s preferences. Once the baby is born, the recipient has the legal rights to the baby and therefore they can assume parenthood as required.
