If you are living with gaps from missing teeth, a cosmetic dentist can help you overcome the problems that you are suffering from. Missing teeth can cause you to be unable to process food correctly, therefore limiting the types of food that you can eat. If your favorite foods have been eliminated from your diet due to missing teeth, it can be absolutely no fun. Additionally, you may be reluctant to speak to or smile at other people, because the gaps in your mouth cause you to be self-conscious about the way you look and what others think about you. When you have missing teeth, a cosmetic dentist can help you close the gap.

Here are some procedures that a cosmetic can help you with:

Braces – Whether you have overcrowding and teeth that are overlapping or gaps between your teeth, braces can straighten your teeth and resolve these issues. Braces work by applying pressure to your teeth to physically move them at an extremely slow rate. There are ceramic, metal, and plastic brackets that you can choose from to wear on your teeth; the ceramic and plastic brackets are not a noticeable as the metal braces. These brackets are glued to our teeth and are wired together. The wires are tightened to create tension on your teeth and make them adjust. Braces may need to be worn up to two years, and once the teeth have been moved to proper positioning, patients wear a retainer that is removable to encourage the teeth to stay in place several months after the braces are taken off.

Invisalign

Invisalign is similar to braces, in that they also apply pressure to the teeth to encourage them to shift. The one advantage that Invisalign has over braces is that it is inconspicuous. Invisalign is a system of removable devices that come in a series. Each one is worn for about two weeks. Whenever you drink, brush and floss your teeth, and drink, you can take the Invisalign removable device out of your mouth, which is why it is so popular with people.

Porcelain Veneers

These casings are made of ceramic and are fitted onto your teeth. They immediately provide you with a natural appearing smile, and when you open your mouth to talk, no one will notice that you have veneers because they look just like your own teeth. Your cosmetic dentist shaves part of the enamel on your tooth to make the place where your casing will be affixed. A mold is created and sent off to the lab, where they will make your custom veneers. Your cosmetic dentist then cements the veneers to your natural teeth. Not only can veneers make your smile appear straighter, it can also improve the whiteness of your teeth, as you can choose the color of the veneer.

There is no reason for you to have to put up with gaps in your teeth that bother you and make you feel self-conscious. You can your cosmetic dentist can decide together which choice is best for you and your needs.
