Ever since the mankind existed, waste has been generated. With the passing of the years and the challenging climate changes, the management and disposal of waste has become a real problem. Countries like United Kingdom produce approximately 100 million tonnes of waste every year. Ever wondered where does all this waste go? Well, as humans, we don’t pay attention to things as long as they do not affect us. But climate change is real and it is affecting every living being on the planet. Several organisations like Calgary Dump Removal are doing a great job in their native country to help manage waste.

As if the human waste wasn’t enough, the industrial waste generation and management have only exacerbated. In the earlier days when the consumption of canned and packaged products was less, the trash trucks just collected trash from the households, carried them to the outskirts of the city, and dumped it in the open. However, that is not a viable option now. There are houses and civilisations even on the outskirts of the cities. Therefore, as a community, we need to learn some effective ways of dump removal. This article will enlist a few ways to do that. Read on to know more:

1. Compost

Compost should ideally be made in every household. Under the process, you can dump your organic waste in the compost such as leaves, branches, vegetable’s peel offs, etc. This way, you can reclaim the land at a lesser cost because the unnecessary refused products are not dumped into the environment. It also ensures that the greenhouse gas Methane is not produced in a larger quantity, thus, also beneficial for the environment. Additionally, this practice will also replenish the soil.

2. Open Burning

Open Burning has been used as the method of waste management since ages. Open burning does not destroy the waste, nor does it exhaust it completely. However, burning waste openly does reduce the volume of the waste by 80-90%. The remains can then be buried. Even though open burning is a great way for dump management, it is not so much healthy for the environment. Open burning releases several toxic gases straight into the atmosphere, thereby affecting the air we breathe. Therefore, it is recommended to use this method only when there is no other viable option.

3. Incineration

Incineration is a process much like open burning except that incineration is done in a closed container and in the presence of oxygen. The container used is a furnace and commonly called as the incinerator. This process too has the same properties of open burning and incineration too does not destroy all waste. Instead, it reduces the volume of the dump by 60-70% and then buried in the landfills. Similar to the opposition against open burning, there have been researches that suggest incineration causes a great damage to the environment as several dangerous gases and fumes are produced in the process and must be stopped.
