How can you work with a non-profit charity organisation to make the world a better place? There is a lot of good that can happen in the world when you proactively try to do good. Saving Children in Poverty is a Faridabad-based Indian NGO, founded by an Australian philanthropist Frances Allan. When she visited India, she was shocked by the poverty and the general condition of people in the Sector-Four slum of India. Thus along with a local doctor, Vishy Bandhu, and his wife Kranti Bandhu the Saving Children in Poverty NGO was started by Frances Allan. Let’s have a look at a few of their non profit projects.

The SCIP Equality, Compassion, Opportunity (ECO) School

"An education is the investment with the greatest returns." - Benjamin Franklin

The SCIP ECO School started in 2011. Seven years later, it provides free education to around two hundred students across six grades such as playgroup, nursery, lower kindergarten, upper kindergarten, first grade and second grade. They are taught Maths, Hindi, Science, and English by teachers who are hired full time. A few students are also given further scholarships -- with the help of sponsors from around the world -- to study in the Nehru Academy School so that they can build a future for themselves.

SCIP SEWS - Women’s Empowerment Group

"Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women, who have her back."

SCIP SEWS is a women empowerment project wherein women from the slum are provided vocational training. They are taught to stitch and sew so that they can support their families financially and be self-independent. The women are so enthusiastic to learn skills that they even asked for full-time trainers. Their hand-crafted garments and items are sold around the world. 100% profit from the sales go back to the women in slums; it also helps to fund the community projects.

The SCIP Medical Clinic

"Healthcare must be recognised as a right, not a privilege." - Bernie Sanders

The SCIP Medical Clinic provides free medical help to the people living in the slum. There are also free medical eye checkup camps and first aid training courses so that the general population knows what to do in case of an emergency. You can volunteer as a medical help at the SCIP Medical clinic or even donate medicines and funds to run the show.

So, which of the above not-for-profit charity projects are you going to support? You can contribute $200 to help educate a child for a year or contribute $700 to build a classroom at the SCIP ECO School. If you are interested in travelling and working with a non-profit charity organisations then you can consider volunteering with SCIP NGO in India -- it will be a life-changing experience for you. You can give back to the society, and make sure that your actions have an impact at grassroots level and improve lives of people at the ground level. Help the children get an access to basic education by contributing to the SCIP ECO School. Help the women break gender barriers by making sure that they can earn an honest living by shopping from SCIP SEWS -- a not-for-profit, ethical clothing brand. Help the people get access to basic healthcare by contributing to the SCIP Medical Clinic.
