Who is a class monitor? It is someone who organises a classroom. A teacher selects an individual from the students to carry out some special duties. Every month or two months, a teacher changes monitors. They select those children who has proved their potential to the teachers, or who are capable of handling a class when the teacher is absent or busy. The top most duty of a classroom is to maintain decorum in the class, because there are a lot of noisy and undisciplined students in the class. Other than the basic duties, the monitor should also have some moral duties like, being well disciplined, responsible, understanding towards everyone, and not biased. He is capable of appointing students which can be categorised into sub-monitors.

The duties of a monitor are:

  1. Reporting to the office, and notifying them if the teacher hasn’t come yet.
  2. After every lesson, the blackboard is supposed to be clean and the monitor is in charge of noticing if the sub-monitor is doing it.
  3. He is the supervisor of the classroom activities and nothing can be done without the teachers and his permission.
  4. Switching off the lights and fan, when everybody has left the class, so as to save energy.
  5. He is liable of collecting all the homework and hand it over to the teacher. And, also noting down the names of the person who hasn’t submitted them yet.
  6. Supervising the cleanliness of the classroom, as nothing should be untidy. It is his duty to maintain the classroom.
  7. He should be having the extra key of the classroom cupboards, and if some student needs anything from it, he should be getting it himself.
  8. If somebody is being noisy, then it is their duty to write down their names and pass it over to the teacher. Then the teacher would be dealing it.
  9. They are the chalk/pen getter, and if anything finishes they should be getting it instantly, so as to not cause any delay to the teacher.

All the monitors should also be the mentors of the children. The children should look upto them and think that they also want to monitor a class, and be capable enough. A teacher trusts the monitor a lot and they should never misuse it. They are expected to have a cordial relationship with all the students. He should be observing that everyone should be punctual in the class and nobody should be bunking a particular period. If anybody is, then they should definitely inform the teacher about it.
