Most modern households will have some kind of cooker they use for doing their food, it could be a freestanding appliance or most probably a built in cooker, fan assisted oven and a hob on the worktop maybe gas or electric, ceramic there are many alternatives, they do break down and when they do it can be inconvenient for the busy household so knowing where to get the parts from if you are attempting to do some simple repairs yourself will be important for you.

There is a really great site where you can get all the parts you need, Spares Direct 2 U Ltd

There are many components inside your cooker I will give a brief description of a few and what they do this may help you determine if one of them is the reason why your cooker has stopped working.

Please isolate the cooker from the mains supply before removing any parts.

Element Or Fan Oven Element

This will be situated at the back of the oven, if you remove the oven shelves they should just slide out and then you can see the plate at the back of the oven which covers the element and fan, this will be held on with 4-6 screws if you remove those this will give you access to the element and fan motor, now you can visually inspect the element if you see any splits or blow marks then it will need to be replaced, they also distort and this will be obvious to you if it has happened, if it looks ok then you will need to test this with a multi meter for continuity and resistance to find out if it is faulty, usually the elements can be replaced from here without having to remove the cooker from the housing.

Fan Motor

This is located in the middle of the fan oven element, it consists of a motor and a fan, pretty obvious right, they are usually quite reliable but can fail, they tend to get clogged up with grease and debris out of the cooker while its working, if the fan is stiff to turn this could be the case, or it could be the electric motor that has burnt out, you will need to remove the cooker from the housing to replace this and test it for faults.

Thermostat

This consists of a main body part with a sensor which is fed down into the oven cavity and this senses the temperature of the oven, you can see this working if you have a temperature light on the cooker it usually will be lit when its heating and when the thermostat has switched the power to the element the light will be off.

I hope some of this has helped someone out, all your Oven Spares can be bought easily online.
