The holy city of Makkah experiences a hot desert climate, which means that the temperatures during summers can be extremely hot with daytime temperatures exceeding 40-Degree Celsius. The temperatures can drop to the level of 30-Degree Celsius at night. Makkah receives scant rainfall usually between the months of November and January, but there is always a threat of flooding considering the fact that the city had many instances of floods in the past. These instances of flooding led to the construction of dams by the government in order to provide effective protection from floods.

Makkah’s weather is relatively pleasant during the winter season with daytime temperatures rarely increasing beyond 30-Degree Celsius. This season provides a great opportunity for Muslims residing in the countries of Northern Europe to embark on the sacred journey of Umrah from their place of residence to this holy city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For the Muslims living in the United Kingdom, an Umrah in December would be a great opportunity to fulfil their dream of accomplishing the lesser pilgrimage. They would also have the chance of performing all the rituals comfortably in the presence of a pleasant weather.

For Muslims of the UK, the last week of December would be an ideal time to perform their lesser pilgrimage by visiting Makkah. This is the time when the offices and educational institutions in the country are closed for the Christmas celebrations. Many of the tour operators or travel companies specialising in Hajj and Umrah tours provide December Umrah packages to help UK Muslims in making the best use of this wonderful opportunity. Upon booking these packages several months in advance, the prospective pilgrims can have greater savings for their journey. They can utilise the savings thus made during their time spent in the holy city for buying souvenirs or visiting some important Islamic sites.

Among them is a sacred mountain called Abu Qubais, which is located on the eastern frontier of Makkah. This mountain was known as al-Amin among the pagan Arabs who lived in this region during those times. One of the popular legends states that it was home to a cave, where the first of men lived and were buried after their death. The December Umrah packages give UK Muslims the chance to visit this site where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had performed the miracle of splitting the moon into two and then getting it back to its original form.

During their time in Makkah, the pilgrims can also visit the Masjid al-Jinn, an interesting mosque in Makkah located near Jannat al-Mu’alla. It is believed to be one of the oldest mosques in the city and also one of the most important. This mosque has been built at the site where a group of genies or ‘jinn’ had gathered one night to hear Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recite a portion of the Holy Quran. He later met the leaders of these genies and accepted their embrace of Islam.
