Waste Management is an issue which needs to be addressed first hand, in urban cities but it needs to be done in a sustainable manner, claims Eldeco MD Pankaj Bajaj. Alternative methods of waste disposal need to be developed and landfills need to be planted keeping in mind the residents of that city; away from the main housing areas.

A deteriorating urban setting is the enemy of sustainable development. Protecting the environment is not an alternative to economic growth—it is a precondition of efficient economic development.

Solid waste management is the foremost environmental issues facing urban municipalities these days. There’s an imperative thought to be given for the safe disposal of the solid waste generated by urban residents and businesses. The rise in urban, economic and industrial activities, in addition, has led to a rise in the amount of solid waste generated because of the resultant population increase.

CREDAI-NCR President and Pankaj Bajaj Eldeco says:

"Waste-to-energy plants are crucial in the battle against urban waste, but their location should be better thought of. Decisions could always be reviewed."

Recently, waste landfills have become a major problem in NCR cities of Noida- Greater Noida, where solid waste landfills have been created too close to premium housing societies and hence are a cause of complaints about the prospective home buyers.

Waste to energy is the method of making energy (that will be used as heat or electricity) from waste materials, also known as municipal solid waste (MSW). This treatment could be a sort of energy recovery, and therefore the method really helps to attenuate waste too. What cannot be employed in energy recovery is going to be sent to lowland.

Energy from waste is a hot topic at the minute within the fight against temperature change; therefore its role in promoting long-term environmental responsibility is also very much important. Governments and councils are perpetually dealing with energy targets and thus we need additional innovative ways of managing waste in our throwaway society.

Alternative methods to waste disposal ought to be developed keeping an increase in population and economic development in mind. The state of solid waste management in NCR cities requires immediate attention if the urban setting is to be saved from any more deterioration.
