Is A Commercial Slush Machine Right For Your Business?

If you run a retail shop you may be wondering whether or not you should install a commercial slushy maker - one of those machines which make frozen slushy fruit drinks. There are a number of very good reasons for doing so, not the least of which is the huge percentage profits that you can make with them. With some brands of slush syrup it is possible to make up to 85% profit - and spending 15p to make 1.00 is just commercial good sense.

Another very important point about a commercial slush machine is that it really takes up very little space whatsoever. An ideal place for it is on the counter top next to the cash register because you want to put it right in front of every customer. Many customers will make it an impulse purchase, but once it is established and customers know it is there they will come into your shop for the purpose of buying a slushy drink, and perhaps make other impulse purchases while they are there. So if you run a newsagent's, for instance, they will come in for their drink and perhaps see a magazine and buy that at the same time. So you are making extra sales all round with a commercial slush drinks maker.

Another good place to site a slush machine is right by the door so that every customer cannot fail to see it as they enter and leave your shop. One thing that you do need to note is that you need a commercial machine which is of a reasonable size. There are small slush machines on the market, but they are not big enough to handle the sudden bursts of sales that these machines produce. You need a machine with bowls of at least ten litres capacity and at least two bowls. If you have one smaller than that, or even that size but with only one bowl, you won't make all the sales that you could.

The reason for that is that when you have a group of people in the shop - say a bunch of schoolchildren or a coach party visiting town - once one person buys a drink there will be a rush from others wanting one as well. The machine has to be big enough to cope with that. Customers won't wait around while you top up the machine and wait for it to freeze the slush - and if it's a coach party they probably couldn't do that anyway because they have to get back on the coach. So you have lost those sales if you can't handle all the business.

While on the subject, it is worth noting that you should keep the machine topped up during the day, partly because of bursts of sales, but also because the machines run more efficiently when full.

You might, of course, be wondering how much these machines cost, and the fact is that they are not cheap - between 1,500 and 2,000, and some cost even more than that. However, there is a way to get a slush machine at no charge!

At least one company that is a manufacturer of slush syrups also supplies commercial slush machines and has a very special offer. What they do is sell you the machine at the retail price, but then they GIVE you enough slush syrups, cups, and straws, free of charge to cover the cost of the machine. Once you have sold that the machine has effectively cost you nothing and it is sheer profit from then on.

It should be noted that not all retail outlets are suitable for a slush machine. Your business needs to have a steady amount of footfall, so if you run a men's outfitters it is not really going to work very well, because you don't have enough customers coming through the door. Sure, when a customer does arrive and you sell him a suit you may have just made a 700 sale, but typically you may only have two or three customers at a time and at other times you may have none at all for a couple of hours.

That said, there are many businesses that can profit handsomely from a slush machine, and if yours is such a business you should certainly install one.
