Cuplock:

We take pride in our ability to solve problems at work using our ingenuity, adaptability and, sometimes, pure determination to do the job. This 'can do' attitude is part of the American construction culture and, although it has contributed to job performance for decades, it has also created enormous liability and safety issues for employers and equipment owners during the same period.

An example of this double-edged sword are the attached scaffolds.

There are many types of scaffolding accessories, such as debris nets, hoists and cantilevered supports, to name a few. All have to be qualified with the same minimum safety factor requirement as the scaffolding itself. When installed, they can not reduce the scaffold safety factor below the minimum level required by OSHA regulations.

Types of scaffolding accessories :

  1. Beam Clamp
  2. Aluminum Beam
  3. Forged- Double / Right Angle Couplers
  4. Twist Lock/Tube Lock/Pin Lock
  5. Clamp on Leg
  6. Forged Swivel Couplers

Scaffolding accessories can be convenient, save time and be productive, but almost always mean an additional load on the scaffolding. The accessories must be properly designed on the scaffolding, taking into account the additional load, compatibility and additional safety and training requirements.

This almost always requires the input of the manufacturer and / or an appropriately qualified engineer.

Safety In Work At Height (SCAFFOLDING)

From this image that Íñigo sent us, we want to present a "monograph" on the security in the works in height. We are going to try to touch a little of almost all the clubs and the more general cases. This monograph will have several "deliveries": this post is the first one and is dedicated to scaffolding systems.

First, and before starting properly with the specific content, we want to make you reflect on the importance of safety at work with data provided by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security on occupational accidents in 2012:

As you can see in this first graph, during 2012 there were 555 deaths (161 less than in 2011), of which 444 were during the workday and 111 on the way from home to work / from work to home.
