History of dentistry in India
As we all know how important food is for us to survive and for the intake of it we need teethes without teeth it is impossible, it becomes very difficult for one to survive. That’s the reason that there is an ancient history of dentistry in the world. Earlier the technology was not that updated but now because of the latest technology the dental world has upgraded a lot.
Earlier also the treatments for the mouth problem were very painful but now the world has changed the invention of anesthesia has reduced the pain for a good cause. Online dental portals have been recent but the oral metal root has a history of 15-20 years, which is the reason for the great success of it.
Dental Implant
The first question is what are these? These are the artificial roots which are used for the support of the artificial tooth which is placed in the mouth of the patient suffering from the tooth decay and the infection has reached the root of the victim.
What are they composed of?
These are composed of screws, abutments, permanent crown or dentures.
What are they made up of?
They are made up of titanium and zirconium alloy because of the following reasons:
Minimal Corrosion: It belongs to the group of corrosion resistant alloys.
Strong and Sturdy: being strong it is also lightweight and it also has a feature of returning to its original shape even after bending.
Biocompatibility: Both alloys fuse with the bone effectively without harming the body.
Narrow Body: These body implants are narrow because of easy shaping feature, can be bent into the narrow body types so that they can easily be placed in the mouth of the patients who were told that they are not good candidates for the convenient.
Types of Implants:
There are basically two types as follow:
Endosteal: It is the most commonly used implant which is used inside placement in the bone. There are sundry types such as a cylinder, blades, and screws and are placed surgically. These are generally used as an alternative for the patients who have removable dentures and bridges.
Subperiosteal: it is placed on top of a bone of jaw with the help of a metal framework which is fixed in the gum to hold the prosthesis. It is generally used for the patients who cannot wear conventional dentures and have less bone height.
Procedure for placing Dental Implant
The procedure is an effort initiated by a team of patient, dentist, and periodontist. A research is done on the patient that where and how the material has to be placed. According to the patient tooth condition the periodontist will choose which type of material has to be put to meet your need and resolve your problem.
The procedure is accomplished by a sequence of steps:
Replacing the tooth: now the replacing is of these types depending on the deformation of the numbers of teeth:
- Replacing the single tooth
- Replacing several teeth
- Replacing all the teeth
Sinus Augmentation: when a tooth is lost the vacant space socket starts collapsing which results in a ridge that is toothless area also because of it the cartilage surrounding it starts relocating with a loss in height and width of the cartilage. Additionally, when a premolar or maxillary molar is lost, the floor of the sinus expands, it in turn, diminishes the thickness of the underlying cartilage. For the implantation process, this augmentation of the sinus is very important for the integration of bone since augmentation fully relies on the integration of cartilage to replace the teeth. The main goal of this sinus lift is to graft an extra cartilage to support the implant.
Ridge Modification: Deformities in the lower and upper jaw of the patient results in the inadequate ossein. For correction of this deformity, the gum is removed from the ossein such that the bone defect can be seen easily. The deformity is then filled with the bone or its substitute to build up the ridge. This modification increases the chances of success of implantation.
After completing the above steps finally implantation surgery proceeds.
During the surgery the exposed ossein after ridge modification is drilled and holes are created where the metal piece has to be placed. Since this piece has to serve as it is drilled deep into the ossein.
At this point, your tooth is still missing. For the meanwhile, the partial denture is placed which can be removed for cleaning and while sleeping.
Follow-ups after the placement:
Waiting for the bone to grow: once the metal piece has been placed inside the jawbone grows and forms a bond along this piece. This process generally takes various months.
Placing the abutment: When the bone growth has completed, a special surgery is carried out for placing the abutment (the place where the crown will be attached). This minor surgery is done with the help of injecting a local anesthesia to the patient.
To place it:
- The oral surgeon opens up the ridge modifies area to expose the metal root.
- The abutment is attached
- The gum tissue is then closed.
Choosing the Artificial Teeth
Once the abutment placement has been done, the gum is healed for the time period of one to two weeks before the artificial fang is attached. Once it has healed, the impression of the mouth is taken for the making of the crown. The crown can’t be placed in the jawbone is not strong enough.
The artificial fang is of two types:-
Removable: type of fang can be easily removed for cleaning or repairing.
Fixed: The fang is permanently screwed or cemented on the abutments and can’t be removed. It serves as an original tooth.
After-effects of the procedure:
Once the procedure has been done in a single stage or multiple stages, some forms of discomforts are experienced as follow:
- Swelling of gums
- Swelling of face
- Bruising of skin and gums
- Pain
- Minor bleeding
Care needs to be done after surgery:
Getting done the surgery is not only the last thing you should be concerned of, you need to take care once you have done with the surgery. Following are the concerns:
- Practice good oral hygiene
- Keep a link along with your dentist
- Avoid damaging habits
Conclusion
Dental Implant surgery is mostly successful however in some cases the fusion of bone and implant fails that results in the failure.
