Is cheap single trip holiday insurance always the best option?

If you have a holiday coming up, will you book a single trip holiday insurance policy to cover all the necessities and give you peace of mind? Many people will, but it is wise to check and see whether it is the best option of all those that are available first.

With this in mind, let’s focus on some of the things you need to think about.

Will you be going away again?

While some people only ever take one foreign break a year, others take more than one. (Remember you can include weekends away in this equation as well.) If you are going on holiday more than once it certainly makes sense to get a policy that will cover the whole year instead of single trip holiday insurance. It will be more cost effective over the entire year and it also means you can plan other short breaks if you want to, while knowing you are already covered.

It can save you money if you know you’re only going away once

If you are budgeting or you simply don’t have the time to enjoy more than one break, single trip holiday insurance is definitely the best option for you. It is usually the cheapest you can get because it covers a defined and limited time period. You may even be able to purchase a policy for a mere few pounds. This is definitely a money saver if you have planned to take one holiday and one only. Why spend more than you really have to?

Does it cover everything?

You might be surprised to know there are a lot of variations when it comes to these policies. For example there are some for different age groups as well as different types of holidays, and for families as well as for couples or individuals.

It is obviously important to make sure you have the right kind of cover before you book and pay for it. For example, if you know you will be climbing mountains you may need to check your policy covers this particular activity. Sometimes they will approve it and not charge any extra, but at other times you will need to get a specific policy to cover the "extreme" activities you wish to undertake.

Of course, finding the cheapest policy is appealing, but if you want something a little out of the norm you will have to pay more for it. Getting single trip holiday insurance could backfire if you get the wrong policy: it could end up being very expensive if you find you don’t have the cover you need for your particular situation. Choosing the best policy is not something you should do in five minutes: take your time and ensure you get the best and most appropriate deal for you.
