Dubai was, of course, an important port of call in the early 19th century. However, the discovery of oil in the region in the year 1966 led to massive developments in its infrastructure over the years. It is now a global city and a major business and tourist hub of the Middle East. The largest city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai has earned the reputation of being the ‘shopping capital of the Middle East’ in recent times. While it is known for its elegant shopping malls, the city has also preserved its traditional markets or ‘souks’ on both sides of its creek.

Summer from April to October can be quite unpleasant for tourists in this part of the world owing to the scorching heat and high humidity levels, making it difficult for them to indulge in outdoor activities. If you plan to book your Dubai holidays for this season, you can enjoy some discounts on your hotel stays or holiday packages. The winter season from November to March is the best time to be in the city as the weather during this time of the year is characterised by pleasant daytime temperatures. If you wish to enjoy your holiday in this city during winters, it is advisable to book your package or hotel accommodation well in advance as this is a peak tourist season.

After getting to this city in their Dubai flights, many of the tourists visit the Dubai Mall for a great shopping experience. The mall also houses the Dubai Aquarium and provides great entertainment for both children as well as their parents with its gaming zone and cinema complex. Your holiday in this part of UAE would never be considered complete without visiting Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. The Dubai Museum, Bastakia, and Jumeirah Mosque are some of the other important attractions of the city.

Your Dubai holidays would also give you the opportunity to indulge in some exciting outdoor activities. Among them is skydiving, which can be enjoyed with the help of an experienced instructor by taking off in a plane from the Dubai Marina. You can also enjoy an adventurous hiking expedition by getting to the Hajar Mountains. Wake-boarding and kitesurfing can be enjoyed near Umm Suqiem. Beginners can benefit from the introductory sessions offered by the service providers located nearby. The desert located beyond the city limits can be a great place to enjoy desert safaris.

While you’re in Dubai, you would also get the opportunity to enjoy the mouth-watering dishes of this region. One of the popular dishes is Al Harees, which is prepared using meat and wheat as the main ingredients. This delicacy is served during special occasions like Ramadan, Eid festivities, and weddings. Another famous dish is Al Machboos, which is made with meat, onion, rice, dried lemon, and spices. You can also choose to savour Hummus, a thick dip made using olive oil, chickpeas, salt and other ingredients. It is commonly served with flatbread and has a unique taste.
