I have done my Bachelors in Computer Engineering and something that I can vouch for is the fact that doing my engineering from the best engineering college like JMIT and selecting the branch I had complete interest in helped me in shaping my career the way I wanted it to be. I have travelled all across the globe, made successful clients for my company, got promotions and hikes, just because I studied hard and took as much knowledge as I could have from the professors at the top engineering college, my JMIT.

But this fact that I keep busy all day won’t stop me to tell the engineering aspirants all about engineering and its choices.

I will start by introducing you to the main branches of engineering :

  1. Computer Engineering/IT
  2. Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  3. Mechanical Engineering
  4. Civil Engineering
  5. Chemical Engineering
  6. Electronics & Communication Engineering
  7. Architectural Engineering
  8. Aeronautical Engineering

If you take my opinion then let me make you aware with the fact that every branch of engineering has its own pros and cons, so if you think that Computer Engineering/IT is the best branch to study, you might be wrong.

As it puts you in a very competitive environment where every single engineering aspirant is interested in coding, be it basic C++ or Java. So I would recommend that stream only if you are completely interested in it like I was when I started my engineering at the best engineering college, not because of the fact that you are going to get a heavy package.

Mechanical Engineering has the reputation of being the toughest of all the engineering branches so my friend be ready to rule the world if you are game for robotics and machines and all the facts on how they work.

Make Electrical or Electronics Engineering your cup of tea only if the applications of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism interest you.

Another important branch of engineering is Civil Engineering that one of my close friends also pursued. This branch is all about conceiving, designing, building, supervising, operating, constructing and maintaining import infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector that includes services like roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and water and sewage systems, etc. It is basically a public service related job and if you love to do things that will help others then go for it.

Many students think that because chemistry was a cake walk for them in class 12 the same way Chemical Engineering would be good for them. Let me bring your attention to the fact that it involves applied physics, life sciences, both microbiology and biochemistry, applied mathematics, produce, transform and transport chemicals and yeah, a little bit of chemistry too.

Architectural Engineering would require you to design projects for buildings, infrastructure etc, so if you are filled with ideas to plan a city or something then go for it my friend, this will take you abroad as engineers are in high demand there.

Finally I would only suggest that it is important for you to see your interest level in the field of study which can be found out by a small research about what you are really passionate about. It is always advisable to first introspect yourself and then take any important decision.
