Yes, Sydneysiders love their summer.

Each year, towards the end of April, there is a shift in the air and you could almost feel the collective mourning of the locals for the impending end to beach weather and long sunny days. However, professional Sydney Wedding Photographer, Florent Vidal, is adamant that couples should not dismiss the Winter months when planning your wedding.

According to him, there are plenty of good reasons to get married in Sydney during the months of June, July and August especially in the east coast’s beautiful climate:

1 ~ The Soft Winter Light

Light is the most important tool that a photographer can master. Winter is full of contradictions. While it feels colder, visually everything is warmer.

With the soft winter light, couples can enjoy natural beautiful portraits and if you’re having an outdoor couple shoot, the other plus side is that you have more freedom when planning your wedding schedule.

Although the days are longer in Summer, the sun is high up for much longer, too. This means that most times are a no-no when shooting for portraits, as you would be getting the dreaded shadows under your eyes. The only way to counteract these limitations is to actually find a shady spot!

Whereas in winter, you can pretty much be in plein air all day long and still look and feel fresh!

2 ~Shadows

Have you ever noticed how shadows are more prominent at this of the year? Take a look around you and you’ll notice that shadows are longer and much more theatrical. A creative photographer will use this opportunity to play with light and produce creative portraits.

3 ~Winter Romance

There is something about winter that signal romance. Candlelights, the falling of the leaves, and intimate indoor spaces like wineries, art galleries, old Victorian buildings and country houses provide the perfect wedding venues for your wedding this time of the year.

4 ~ Less crowd

Walk around in Sydney CBD on a Saturday during summer and you are bound to find many brides and grooms vying for the same spot for their wedding photos. And if you start counting you will most likely see three ore more wedding shoots happening at the same time! If you want to enjoy this beautiful city (almost) all to yourself, then a winter wedding is your best bet.
