Redefining Education for the Next Generation

Posted: Sep 01, 2018
Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event. ~ Heidi-Hayes Jacobs
At Amity Global School we believe that change is the only constant. In the academic sector it is our duty to prepare our students now for the technically intricate workplaces that they will land in. We therefore provide them with all the tools that will define future career practices.
It is practically impossible to foresee the growth of technology – in terms of both rate and direction. The same also applies to changes in learning methodologies. If we combine the two, the uncertainty grows further.
The education sector has reached a strange junction today. It needs to inculcate real-life skills in students and prepare them for an increasingly complex world. And it also knows that teaching methodologies can only be formalised when the practices have been clearly described.
It is believed that in education domain it takes around fifty years for new methods to be accepted as norm. However, the way in which technology now dominates different aspects of daily life, fast-paced innovation is the only constant. This is why educational institutions can no longer afford to resist change.
Notwithstanding the growing pressure on their budgets, schools and colleges have increased their investment in technology throughout the past decade. They are as serious about their digital environments as the physical environment in which they impart knowledge. Trends from e-learning to online admission procedures have become a part of educational institutions.
As per a report by Google and KPMG¹ the investment in online education in India will possibly grow from its current $247 million and reach $1.96 billion by 2021.
Learning platforms, custom software and digital devices are creating new ways to shape education. They have helped in catering to the academic potential, and strengths while also addressing weaknesses and learning pace of every individual student in a class.
In the ‘one size fits all’ traditional teaching model, students were unable to get individualised attention due to time constraints and unbalanced student to teacher ratio. The feedback on performances was usually delayed.
The old teaching styles are now being supplemented by technology oriented adaptive and personalised learning pedagogies. Students can connect with their teachers and chat with other experts in real time through digital devices to get queries resolved in real time.
Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality have entered the world of e-learning and have positively impacted learning experiences. They help students to directly interact with the study material and keep their engagement levels high, enabling them to understand concepts at a faster pace.
As a tool transforming education, technology can also affirm and improve relationships between the teachers and students. It redefines their approach to teaching, learning and collaboration while shrinking accessibility gaps.
Furthermore, technology supports the teachers in fair assessments with a comprehensive picture of each student’s needs, interests and abilities. The move from paper and pen based evaluations to digital assessments results in more flexibility, responsiveness and contextualization.
Smart classes are a part of academic culture at Amity Global School and we digitalize the prescribed curriculum highlights to make learning experiences more impactful for our students.
With the evolution of cloud, big data and IoT trends, the wave of technology has set in and modernized classrooms need to be adopted by educational institutions for a new realm of unrestricted learning. "
