Facial bone fracture treatment – what you need to know
Posted: Sep 05, 2018
Facial bone fractures are a painful affair. Not only do they cause damage to the face and its natural structure, but also leave the patient to live with the deformities for the rest of their lives – which can be a daunting challenge. Looks are, after all, important. In this day and age, there is hope for people who have sustained facial injuries; today, facial bone fracture treatments in Mumbai are helping people regain their lost confidence in addition to treating broken bones. This article is all about facial bone fracture treatment and what you need to know about it.
Causes and symptoms
There can be umpteen causes of facial fractures – injury is the major one. Whenever facial bones sustain high impacts, it is likely that a facial bone fracture has occurred. When the injuries are severe, you can tell a fracture easily; however, sometimes the signs are subtle and not very pronounced. The fracture, in such cases, may go unnoticed, and the face may sustain deformities. Here is a list of symptoms that you may experience if a facial bone fracture has occurred.
- You are seeing floating spots, your vision has blurred or you are experiencing double vision
- One or both of your eyes have shifted in position, and look sunken
- There is bruising on your face
- You are experiencing pain in moving your eyeballs
- Your eyelids are swollen
- There is numbness in certain parts of your face
- Your cheeks are either swollen or sunken
- You are experiencing difficulty in breathing
Facial bone fracture treatment
There are many methods used to treat facial bone fractures in Mumbai these days. If there is no dislocation of broken bone (when the bone stays in its normal position), no treatment is administered, and the fracture can be dealt with medication alone. However, for more serious cases, the following treatments are adopted.
- Endoscopy – in this method, an endoscope is inserted to observe the insides of your sinuses and eye sockets. There may be cases where the scope is inserted through a small incision in the scalp into the sinuses. During this procedure, the broken pieces of bone scattered around the innards are removed.
- Closed reduction – this technique is usually adopted in the case of broken noses. The surgeon pries the broken, dislocated bone back into place. There is no incision needed.
- Medication – the doctor may administer medication for pain, congestion, antibiotics and steroids to help healing.
- Maxillofacial surgery – this surgery may be needed when the teeth and jaws have sustained severe damage.
- Reconstructive surgery – facial reconstructive surgery may need to be performed if the injury has left your face deformed.
