Constant pain is felt in the upper back region. The pain may even advance further to the shoulders and other parts of the back region. There is shortness of breath and the patient may even complain of shallow breathing and constant coughing too. It is the excessive pressure on the back region that leads to severe pain.

It is worth noting that pleurisy may be caused due to wide range of factors or reasons. Ultimately, these may lead to back pain. The friction or chaffing that is caused in the chest due to pleurisy is ultimately felt in the back. With every breath, the patient complains of back pain. The pleura or the lining of the lungs becomes sensitive to any type of motion in the body when pleurisy is caused due to some autoimmune diseases such as arthritis or even tuberculosis. That is why the patient complains of pain with each and every movement of the body. Even mild movement or breathing with force may result in aggravation of the pain in the back.
