There are many kinds of wrenches, and one of the popular ones among those is the ratcheting wrench. You might be wondering what makes the ratchet wrench different from the regular wrenches. After all, at the end of the day, it is a tool used to loosen or faster the bolts and nuts, and that is something that all regular wrenches do. However, there are features that make the ratchet wrench much better fit than the other. The key lies in the parts and the functionality factors when it comes to choosing the ratchet wrench over the regular options.

The different parts of a ratchet wrench

The ratchet wrench comprises of two key parts: the socket and the handle. The handle is that wrench itself. That is the part which you hold in your hand and turn to loosen or tighten the fastener. At the end of that handle, there is one square-shaped projection known as the driver. The driver houses the socket. The socket is the metal cylinder which is attached to a ratchet wrench. Sockets come in different sizes. You can buy a set of the sockets. Each socket in the set will match a bolt or nut of a specific size.

The work that is done by a ratchet wrench

Ratchet wrenches are made distinctive by the ratcheting mechanism. This mechanism is a gear which holds when a person swings the handle in a direction and discharges when swung in the opposite direction. When you fasten the socket to a ratchet wrench and then place it on the crown of the fastener, and start swinging that handle, the fastener will revolve in the direction of swing. If it were a regular wrench, when you create a complete swing, you would need to remove that wrench, and then place it back to start point, and make one more swing. But with that ratchet wrench, you swing back to the first point without removal of the wrench from the fastener.

As an Advantage of ratcheting wrench, the ratchet mechanism will hold, so the fastener will not revolve back when swung back to the first point. This value of the ratchet wrench allows you to work more speedily and competently. You can also have a stress-free time clasping or taking out nuts and bolts in the cramped spaces like behind that appliance backed against the wall.
