3 Tips to Get Your Nissan Pathfinder Ready for Winter

The Nissan Pathfinder is an excellent SUV that has proven off road performance. Despite this, it’s still a good idea to pay some extra attention to your wheels when you’re getting ready for winter. This is especially true if you are engaging in winter sports and you need to haul equipment to your chosen location. A journey into these areas can be fraught with danger; it’s vital to drive safely and have your SUV setup correctly to reduce risk. Here are three tips that you can follow to get your Pathfinder ready for the winter months.

1. Assemble a Snow Kit

Any colder environment has a real knack for bringing out electrical or mechanical issues that can halt your SUV in its tracks. When there is ice and snow about it can be easy to slide off the road or get stuck, and you need to be prepared for these possible situations. For these reasons, if you're headed for some winter sports, it’s a great idea to assemble a snow kit that you can keep in your boot until you need them. Pack a tow rope, jump leads and a shovel to get your car restarted and back on the road. Many seasoned winter drivers also pack a bag of cat litter that is ideal to add traction underneath a tyre. A handbrake can also freeze in colder conditions so you may want to take some wheel chocks to prevent movement when parked. Then you will need a bag with some extra items, such as a basic tool kit, a windscreen scraper, a can of deicer, some road flares, and a reflective warning triangle.

2. Using Snow Chains

A set of snow chains may be compulsory in a more alpine area, and then you will need to fit them. There are usually snow chain fitting bays located near to snowfields, and if there isn’t one available, you will need a clear area off the road. Owners of all wheel drive SUV vehicles may not need to fit snow chains, but it’s a great idea to pack them anyway. If the conditions get worse, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to fit them anyway.

3. Put Together a Cold Weather Kit

This is an emergency kit to break out if you get into a bad situation where your SUV has gone off the road, or you’re trapped. Some key items would include a multi-tool, first aid kit, an emergency blanket, a battery powered radio, spare batteries, spare power for your phone, a torch, some spare warm clothing and emergency food and water supplies.
