How Much Do Braces Cost

While most of us take great care of our health and fitness it is easy to ignore our oral care. There are some of us who think oral care means simply brushing your teeth twice a day. Then there are some of us that pay more attention to oral care – ensuring that we brush our teeth after every meal, using mouthwash and flossing their teeth for enhanced freshness and cleanliness.

Apart from cleaning, it is important to have a proper teeth alignment. Braces come to the rescue when you want to get a set of perfectly aligned teeth. The alignment of your teeth is important, not just for cosmetic reasons but also for proper food consumption and general dental health. Having aligned teeth makes it easier for you to brush them properly and avoid any cavities as well as being able to chew your food properly. There are four types of braces:

Metal Braces

These are the traditional types of braces, the sort that come to mind when you think about braces. They are comprised of metal brackets with wires to connect them. Years ago, metal braces used to be much larger than they are today. These days, metal braces are much smaller and not nearly as noticeable and much more comfortably. Recent technologies in braces utilize a small door or clip to attach the wire to the brace. However, the traditional style requires a small colored band to attach the wire to the brace. Some people prefer using the different colored bands so they look trendier and can be color customized according to the wearer’s preference. These braces, being the most basic option, are the least expensive and may cost in the United States generally around $4,500 - $8,000 (depending on your geographic location and complexity of treatment required).

Ceramic Braces

These are more or less like the metal b races but with transparent or tooth-colored ceramic brackets. The main advantage that ceramic braces offer is that they are less noticeable, but tend to be larger than metal brackets. To make them even less noticeable, tooth-colored or transparent wires can be used to connect the brackets. Ceramic braces are usually a little bit more expensive as compared to metal braces and cost in the United States generally around $4,500 - $8,500 (depending on your geographic location and complexity of treatment required).

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are special braces that are placed on the tongue-side of your teeth – so they are invisible from the front. They are the same in composition as metal braces, that is, they are made up of metal brackets and wires. The only difference is that they are placed on the back-side of teeth. Since they are placed on the back-side, they can be more difficult for the orthodontist to apply as compared to traditional braces. Lingual braces are definitely harder to clean and more difficult to adjust. They are also more expensive and can cost in the United States generally around $7,000 - $12,000 (depending on your geographic location and complexity of treatment required).

Invisalign

More like a custom-made mouthguard, Invisalign trays are a series of clear plastic aligners that are removable and need to be replaced every 2 weeks. Many people feel they are the most comfortable type of orthodontic treatment because they are removable. This means that you can eat and drink whatever you want while they are out. Being removable is the biggest advantage to Invisalign, but it is also the biggest disadvantage. This is because the aligners have to be in 22 hours a day to achieve optimal results. Of course patient participation is important for any orthodontic treatment, but especially with Invisalign. Invisalign treatment can cost in the United States generally around $4,500 - $8,500 (depending on your geographic location and complexity of treatment required).
