It is anticipated that the next big thing in the mobile networks is about to be revealed in the coming years. 5G network is expected to be officially launched in 2020, though several operators have already demonstrated it in the year 2018 including Telstra, Korea Telecom, China Telecom, and Vodafone.

The data speed of 5G will be much faster than the former networks. The downloading speed of 5G is expected to reach up to 20Gbps in a completely favorable environment. However, the average expected speed would be 1Gbps. On the contrary, the average downloading speed of 4G provided by Vodafone is between 80Mbps to 150Mbps.

This advancement will strengthen and augment the workability of the Internet of Things. As speed is the pre-requisite for smooth running of IoT, 5G will provide the infrastructure required for the transmission of huge data. The responsiveness and reliability of 5G will assist in the elevation of industrial automation, resulting in the emergence of better business models. Being the fastest mobile network, 5G will enable intensify the progress of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Self-driven cars, and E-commerce.

But are there 5G-Compatible Smartphones Available Yet?

The revolution in mobile networks is just around the corner, but the question is, will the existing or upcoming smartphones be compatible with 5G or not?

A smartphone with 5G compatibility is an essential component to witness the next generation of mobile network. Lenovo has announced to launch the first 5G-compatible phone. It was a discreet announcement, but the news got circulated at the speed of light.

The Vice President of Lenovo, Chang Cheng posted on China’s social networking forum Weibo, claiming to launch the first 5G-ready smartphone. Though the post was removed soon, it got viral around the world within a few hours. The smartphone will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and the chipset will feature the SDX50 5G modem as announced by Qualcomm.

Four major carriers of the US have announced the deployment of 5G, namely T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon and the development is carried by Qualcomm, Intel, Lenovo, Samsung, ZTE, Huawei, Ericsson, and Nokia.

The advancement in technology is revolving around uninterrupted network connectivity. If executed successfully, the world would experience the connectivity, speed, responsiveness, and reliability that have never been witnessed in the age of mobile networks.
