Analysis on Prospect of Straight-seam Resistance Welded Steel Pipe in Petrochemical Enterprises

China's straight seam welded pipe industry started in the 1950s and started late. The production process and technology are quite different from those in developed countries. Most of the enterprises have incomplete process and equipment, lack of necessary testing methods, and use short-band and narrow-band materials with poor quality as raw materials, resulting in small diameter of the welded pipe products, low pressure bearing capacity, unreasonable product structure, and 80% of the welded pipe production. It can be used as a low-pressure fluid conveying water gas pipe, and the proportion of various special pipes is low. This low level of welded pipe equipment and technical level makes the quality of the product unguaranteed. Therefore, long-term use of expensive seamless steel pipes such as pipeline pipes, oil casings and oil pipes causes huge waste.

Some technical performances of straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipes(erw steel pipe) are better than seamless steel pipes, but the price is much lower than that of seamless steel pipes, but it has not been widely used in the petrochemical industry. The main reasons are:(1) The traditional concept that has been formed for a long time. When selecting materials, designers mainly consider whether the material is reliable and rarely consider the cost of materials. Therefore, it is not possible to boldly use straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipes.(2) The investment system of petrochemical enterprise construction projects restricts the initiative to select straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipes and reduce costs. Investors mainly consider the project's project establishment, funding sources, construction progress and other factors, and less demand for designers to reduce material costs.(3) China's straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipe developed late, and it is not yet possible to produce large diameter straight seam welded pipe larger than 508mm, thus objectively restricting the wide use of straight seam electric resistance welded pipe.

Since the strategic restructuring of the petroleum and petrochemical industries, the petrochemical enterprise's system has undergone major changes, which has brought favorable opportunities for the use of straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipes, mainly in:(1) Significant changes have taken place in the mechanism of the construction project. The implementation of the legal person responsibility system of the construction project has determined the main body of investment responsibility, and the legal person is fully responsible for the planning, financing, construction, operation, debt repayment and asset value preservation of the construction project. Investors pay close attention to investment efficiency, strongly demand to reduce costs, and actively require the design department to improve the design level and use the most economically viable materials to reduce the construction cost. In particular, the implementation of the general contracting of the engineering unit as the main body in the petrochemical system, making the reduction of material costs become the active requirements of designers.(2) Most domestic seamless steel pipe manufacturers are aging, prices are high, and quality problems often occur. In particular, there are only one manufacturer of seamless steel pipes of 426mm or more in China, with outdated equipment, high consumption of raw materials and high energy consumption. In addition to the lack of necessary competition mechanism, quality problems often occur, and prices rise and then rise.(3) In recent years, some domestic production enterprises have invested heavily and have a high starting point. They have introduced the world's advanced straight seam electric resistance steel pipe production lines from abroad, and five of them have obtained API certification from the American Petroleum Institute. Recently, two other companies are preparing to introduce large-diameter straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipe production lines of 426 mm or more to produce large-diameter line pipes, oil casings and oil pipes. These initiatives have created favorable conditions for the use of straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipes.

China's pipeline industry formed the first climax in the 1970s. It is expected that the second climax will be formed in the next 10 years. The demand for straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipes will become larger and larger, which is the gradual direction for China's straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipe industry. The world's advanced level has brought together good opportunities. The Chinese oil and petrochemical industries at the turn of the century are facing a serious challenge. At present, the foreign petrochemical industry is undergoing the third structural adjustment. One of the objectives of the adjustment is to enter the Chinese market. China's petroleum and petrochemical industries are undergoing unprecedented tests. In the competition, one of the gaps in China is the high investment in fixed assets. Therefore, changing the concept and raising the level of understanding of the use of straight seam electric resistance welded steel pipes is particularly important for the competition between China's petroleum and petrochemical industries and large foreign companies.
