In the aftermath of Fortnite, the sensational shooting-game that has taken the industry by storm, gaming giant EA (Electronic Arts Inc.) has delayed the release of their next Battlefield video game. This highlights the challenges even established game makers like EA are facing. The Battlefield V launch was postponed to Nov 20.

Founded in May 1982, Electronic Arts Inc. is an American video game company headquartered in Redwood City, California. The company is a pioneer in early home computer games and is notable for developing hit games like Battlefield and promoting the designers and programmers responsible for its games.

Not to mention, EA gas also ended its forecast for the fiscal year ending in March. As the news hit the market, the shares of the gaming manufacturer went down as much as 8.7 per cent on Thursday. This is the greatest dip in the company’s share since January 2016.

Known for its realistic depiction of combat, Battlefield is a first-person shooter game and is one of biggest franchises by the EA.

Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen, in a statement said, "We’re updating our fiscal-year guidance to reflect the updated launch date for Battlefield V, the ongoing impact of foreign-exchange rate changes, and our current outlook for our mobile business."

Patrick Sunderland, who runs the company’s worldwide game-development studios, is also set to leave his position this October to pursue "his next life adventure."

The delay has further added to the setbacks of the video-game maker. The developer’s earnings forecast fell well short of Wall Street estimates this July. EA even cancelled three Madden Classic qualifier events after the shooting incident at the Florida competition.

Like most of the gaming industry, EA is also coping with the shift to mobile gaming. Admiring the remarkable success of ‘every-man-for-himself’ shooter game Fortnite, EA on June 9 said that it would include a battle-royale mode in their upcoming game Battlefield V.

Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite has become a cultural phenomenon for the youth since its release last year. The game has already attracting over 125 million users around the world and is causing a redressal in the entire video-game industry. It is also a first-person shooter game like Battlefield, however the two have various key differences. Where Battlefield’s fan base is made up of hard-core gamers, Fortnite does not realistically depict combat and proves to do better among casual players.

EA, in a statement, said that it now sees net bookings of $5.20 billion for the fiscal year 2019 ending in March, down from $5.55 billion previously. The shares at 10:48 AM fell to $117.61 in New York. Through Wednesday, the stock had climbed up to 22 percent this year, as it closed at $128.52. The company has promised that the delay would result in a better Battlefield experience.

In a blog statement, EA said, "You’ve also spurred us to make some meaningful improvements to the core game play experience, including adjusting the game play tempo, improving soldier visibility and reducing player friction. You’ll see a lot of these reflected in our Open Beta that starts on September 6."
