Maybe you are a private tutor with a few years of experience and looking to expand your business.

What are the different paths that you can take? For some tutors, venturing into group tuition is one viable option. There are a few things to consider if you wish to start class tuition such as preparation of materials, how good is your marketing campaign as you need to source for more students, and finally the location and venue to conduct your classes.

Of all the costs involved rental usually is the highest. For tutors just starting out it is simply too expensive to rent a whole centre on your own and spend tens of thousands on renovation, application of change of use as tuition centre and fire safety. So instead of renting the whole premises it is much more affordable to rent a classroom from a reputable company and reduce your costs significantly.

Four points to consider if you intend to rent classroom from a tuition centre

1. Is the Tuition centre established and reputable?

Renting a classroom from an established centre means you can run your classes for the long term without fear of changing location on last minute's notice. It is very disruptive if the centre suddenly closes down or asks you to leave due to their own plans.

2. Is the centre accessible and well maintained?

Some centres are cheap but situated in very remote places which makes travelling to the centre really inconvenient. A well maintained classroom gives a more professional image to parents and students.

3. Is the rent affordable?

Rent differs greatly from centre to centre and location to location. Accessible locations do cost more but the rent might be too high to cover costs. If renting a whole classroom is too expensive, consider renting the classroom at a weekly specified timeslot for hourly rates. This way you can minimise your rent and commitment. There are centres who offer such short term rental of 6 months or 12 months basis.

4. Are there any conflict of interest?

If you are renting from a tuition centre with its own teachers and students, are you teaching the same subjects as the centre? If so the centre might not be willing to rent to you as there will be competition within the centre. As such if you are teaching very common subjects such as maths, you might have difficulties finding a suitable centre that is willing to rent you their premises.

No doubt there are several points to worry about. Hopefully what we have mentioned can give you a rough idea what to expect when you are looking for a centre to rent classroom.
