There are organizations that are reluctant to use the public cloud for reasons like low bandwidth or security. Not wanting to miss the benefits of the cloud technology, they look to the services of a reliable private cloud hosting provider. They are in control since their in-house IT team manages the applications. They have the liberty to configure the resources to suit their requirements.

What exactly is Cloud?

Cloud uses the virtualization technology and enables users to access configurable and scalable computing resources like storage, bandwidth, servers, applications etc. The cloud services are convenient, available on demand, highly scalable and reliable.

The Cloud services are offered in three models- public cloud, private cloud, and hybrid cloud.

1. Public cloud, as the name suggests, is meant for everyone- individuals, enterprises, communities. It is offered as a utility service. The servers are located at remote data centers away from the customer premises. Some of the features of the public cloud are the on-demand resource availability, resource pooling ensuring redundancy, rapid elasticity, measured service with pay for what you use billing. The investments are minimal, and users need not have technical competency since the service providers manage and maintain the infrastructure.

2. Private cloud is different. Unlike the multi-tenant environment of the public cloud, there is only one customer. The private cloud hosting provider offers the service in two options. The client can choose to main and manage the private cloud in-house using their existing server and maintained by their own technical experts. The other option is to provide a dedicated exclusive environment in their remotely located data centers separating the client from other customers. They may cordon off their business with private lines and dedicated resources.

3. Hybrid cloud is a mix of both the above clouds. Consumers can utilize the best of both the clouds as per their needs and benefit with both the privacy and security of the private cloud and the scalability and affordability of the public cloud.

How does the private cloud hosting provider implement the private cloud?

Private cloud is elastic. It stretches the virtualization to the maximum to get the flexibility. There are some key factors that are necessary for a successful implementation of the private cloud.

Consistency in service management: Private cloud adopts some form of virtualization to build up the cloud management and services. It is essentially meant for one single entity or the service providers makes sure that the client is completely isolated from the others with a ring-like fence. Every move and strategy are tested several times to guarantee sustenance and consistency to achieve predictable results.

Quality of applications: Private cloud allows the users to manage the IT themselves at their premises or they can host them at the service provider’s data center. Although the technology to be maintained and implemented in both the data center is same, it is rarely similar when it comes to performance. Most on-premise data centers fall short in efficiency or performance. They are not as scalable or flexible as they must be, will require too many IT trained experts leading to high expenses.

How does the private cloud benefit an organization?

The private cloud hosting provider services are much higher in cost than the public cloud. There are several benefits in return that an organization gets. Unlike in public cloud, the services in private cloud are meant for one single entity built on dedicated hardware.

Private cloud is flexible. It does not run on one-size-fits-all. The business and technical requirements are not same necessitating customization. Users can deploy and configure the infrastructure to fit and match their business needs.

Private clouds are more secure and assure of total isolated environment. No other individual or entity has access to the resources and applications unless approved or allowed by the business administrators.

The benefits of the private cloud can be many more. However, it is important to deliberate whether your organization is ready for the private cloud hosting provider services. If control, performance, privacy, and security are the primary concerns, private cloud is the right solution. The business will be shifting from physical technology to a more business driven specific environment and it requires the employee understanding and cooperation. If they are reluctant, it can become difficult to achieve the objectives and purposes.
