Smart meters to replace your electricity bills

"In the coming next three years, your all electricity billing meters are about to replace as a prepaid meter as similar to your television set up the box or you must say like a mobile prepaid recharge. After completing this process you will not be able to receive any type of the hard copy of your electricity bill which you used to get & you will be not worried about payments ‘due date’ as well. Apart from taking exertion of due date payment, you will have to ensure there is sufficient balance in your smart meter to keep your home and commercial bulb always on. Using a smart meter, a user will also get promiscuous advantages such as controlling electricity consumption" said Sh. R K Singh, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy during addressing a meeting of meter manufacturers called by the Power Ministry.

The Smart meter has been launched only the main purpose of consuming power. The Smart meter is an electronic device that keeps records of electricity consumption at short intervals and communicates the same to the monitoring organization.

The meeting discussed various dimension of smart meters like BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification, digital infrastructure etc. During the meeting Power minister also gave advice to all electricity meter manufacturer to surmount the manufacturing of smart prepaid meters as the demand would be huge in coming years. RK Singh also advised the officials of the Ministry to consider making smart prepaid meters compulsory after a particular date. This initiative has been taken for the purpose of energy consumption. According to power Minister RK Singh, this initiative will transformation, the power sector by way of reduced Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses; improve the financial health of power distribution companies, incentivisation of energy conservation and 'ease of bill payments', etc.
