The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a mid-day meal NGO in India. It has been implementing the mid-day meal programme since 2000. And, currently it provides nutritious meals to more than 1.76 million children across 39 locations in 12 states. The World Food Day is one of the important NGO events for the Foundation. The main objective of observing this day is to generate awareness and support from the mass. Since the Foundation directs all its efforts to realise its vision of ‘No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger’ and its mission ‘to feed 5 million children by 2020’, it does the same while celebrating World Food Day too.

Akshaya Patra is cognisant of the significance of each and every support. Thus, it provides multiple opportunities for people to get engaged with the Foundation’s cause. Aside from contributing donations, Akshaya Patra encourages supporters to run campaigns, advocate the cause in social media platforms and also provides a wide array of volunteering opportunities. At Akshaya Patra, every penny counts because any amount of donation, big or small, is utilised to provide wholesome meals to children in government schools. Most children in government schools hail from socio-economically challenged and mid-day meals come by as a blessing for them. Akshaya Patra is well-aware of this situation and thus ensure diligent spending of funds. Whether a donor chooses Akshaya Patra online donation or offline mode, his donation is diligently spent in providing the much-needed school meals for children. On an average, 92% of Akshaya Patra donation is used for meeting the programme cost and 8% is used to meet the programme management cost. The Foundation maintains maximum transparency in funds utilisation and also publishes its audited financial statement annually.

The school meal has proved to be a potential incentive in bringing children to school. It has significantly increased enrolment and retention rate, decreased school drop-out rate, and contributed to performance of children in academics and co-curricular activities. This meal has proved significant in spreading hope among children for a better and brighter future. Hence, as during other NGO events, when you support Akshaya Patra on World Food Day, you ensure:

  • Improved health and increased nutrition levels among children;
  • Opportunity for regular and continued education of children;
  • Improved academic performance; and
  • Increased levels of confidence among children.

In the words of Buzz Aldrin, American Engineer, Former Astronaut, and Command Pilot in the United States Air Force, "If we can conquer space, we can conquer childhood hunger." And, Akshaya Patra gives everyone the opportunity to be a part of ending classroom hunger. By making use of Akshaya Patra online donation, one can instantly partake in the fight against hunger. It is also a secure, easy, and fast method to contribute funds for the cause of providing school meals to children. This method of Akshaya Patra donation also allows one to contribute funds at any point in time and during any occasion.
