Posted: Oct 31, 2018
When you want a locksmith for help, what do you do immediately? You search for them on Google. A simple search saying ‘locksmith Tampa’ can give you all the results that you’re looking for. But some of these results aren’t trustworthy and can put you in trouble. That’s what has happened of late and that’s why Hillsborough county has asked people to be careful with the locksmiths that they hire for their work.
In a recent scam that has come to light, a locksmith in the Tampa Bay area has charged a woman a lot than what he had quoted initially. The woman named Michelle Riddlesworth shares has experience of how she was scammed by a locksmith. It was yet another Tuesday morning and she had gone out of the door casually. Her 2-year old son somehow reached the lock and turned the deadbolt. The deadbolt locked the woman out of the house. She tried to push the door open but was in vain. She didn’t know what to do and out of desperation, she called for a locksmith. It was the right thing to do that going on war with the door.
Riddlesworth looked for one on the Internet and found a local locksmith. Over the phone, she explained what had happened and how she urgently needed some help with unlocking the door. As soon as she stated her problem, the locksmith told her that it would cost $35. Normally, such services start at $30 and she was okay with the extra $5. He came to her house, unlocked the door and gave her the bill. The problem began then when she found out that he’s given her a bill for $115.
This is creating a bad name for the entire industry and raises doubts even on professional locksmiths. When such a professional locksmith was contacted regarding this issue, he accepted that such things are common and that these things are killing the reputation of the good locksmiths. Over the phone, a lot say that they’d do it for $15 or $20, but after the work is done, they come up with random hidden charges and sometimes produce a bill for more than $300.
It’s not a one-time thing. In fact, the Hillsborough Consumer Protection Services in a statement recently said that they’ve been receiving such complaints of late. They have also found out a way to tackle the problem. The Consumer Protection Service has a list of locksmith companies that are genuine and professional. Running the name of the service agency with them is a commendable action and could help the users to avoid some trouble.
The Consumer Protection Services has prepared the list after a thorough background check. The team has visited the house of the locksmiths, the businesses, run their eyes through the company’s history, registration certificates and then have compiled this list. Hence, the list could save a lot of people from scams.
But there is some extremely professional locksmith services agency services agency in the Tampa Bay area. Hiring one of these would put you out of trouble.
