A culturally-rich Southeast Asian country, Cambodia is a delight for tourists who are interested in history. However, it also charms those seeking some beautiful natural landscapes and delicious food. Most of the old structures were built during the reign of the mighty Khmer Empire that ruled for more than 600 years. The country was a protectorate of France during the later part of 19th century. Even after gaining independence in the year 1953, Cambodia went through a turbulent period in the couple of decades that followed, until the People's Republic of Kampuchea came into power. During your time spent in this Asian country, you’ll get to explore its fascinating attractions.

Your cheap holidays to Cambodia would allow you to visit Angkor Wat, a large temple complex that can be accessed from the town of Siem Reap. It has been rated as one of the must-see ancient attractions of the world and is praised for its majestic construction. The temple complex was built during the period between the 9th and 15th centuries when the Khmer kings ruled this region. While exploring this temple complex, you'll notice that the surrounding jungle has caused encroachment and decay to some of the wooden structures. Although a considerable damage has occurred to some of the structures, the mighty temples still exist and stand testimony to a glorious period.

The capital city of Phnom Penh is surely worth visiting during your cheap holidays to Cambodia. It is a hub of activities and would be a big turnoff for tourists at first sight owing to crowded streets with a lot of vehicles. However, it has now become one of the most dynamic cities of Southeast Asia over the years. While in this city, you can get the opportunity to visit some important historic sites. It also houses the National Museum, which is home to intriguing Khmer sculptures.

When you're in the province of Kompong Som during your Cambodia holidays, you'll get to visit Sihanoukville. One part of it is home to a bustling central district and the other is known for some fabulous beaches. The beach area is extremely popular with the locals and tourists alike. The Independence Beach and the Sokha beach have elegant luxury hotels that provide memorable stays for tourists. The Serendipity Beach and Ochheuteal Beach are popular with backpackers. If you wish to enjoy some serenity, head to Otres Beach.

If you like to be in unusual places, you can make a trip to the Ratanakiri province, which is home to red-dirt roads and villages inhabited by some ethnic minorities. Your visit to this part of Cambodia would give you the chance to indulge in some exciting activities like trekking. Overnight trips are also arranged to the Veun Sai-Siem Pang Conservation Area. You can watch the elephants, sun bears, and tigers in protected environs while at the Virachey National Park. Just outside Ban Lung town, you'll get to witness the Yeak Lom Crater Lake. It makes for an attractive spot for swimming and a few other exciting activities.
