This will help you to weed out problem workers and highlight any areas where they may need to brush up on their skills.

2. Always Wear Your Harness

Every boom lift operator needs to wear their harness, and the lanyard needs to be secured to the bucket. It may seem unlikely that the operator would fall out of the working platform, but a bump or jolt from other equipment or being caught off balance can cause a fall. Even unexpectedly strong gusts of wind that gusts could knock an operator off their platform and this might result in a fatal fall. The harness is there to mitigate a real risk and not wearing it should be treated in a serious manner.

3. Clear the Base and Circumference

The base of the boom lift and the circumference you’re working within need to be clear of any other workers and equipment before you get started. The boom lift circumference could be quite a large area, any tools or supplies that fall from the platform could seriously injure anyone in this area. When the area is kept clear, you will drastically reduce the risks that someone will be hit by any objects that may fall in the area. It’s also important to understand that in rare cases a boom lift can even tip over.
